THE Meagher Racing partnership is excited to announce it will start training from its new Queensland base this week.

John Meagher, ably assisted by his sons Chris, Dan and Paul, enjoyed a very successful 11-year stint in Singapore.

They are now looking to make an impact in Australia under a joint licence and have set up stables at Eagle Farm which can accommodate up to 40 horses.

Meagher will train with sons Chris and Dan, while another son Paul will do the pre-training at the family partnership’s newly acquired property, Rivermead, at Guanaba, formerly the home of the Gold Coast Polo Club, which can also house up to 40 horses.

Meagher Racing will start with 10 two-year-olds but is hoping to gain immediate support from both old and new stable clients as the stable endeavours to continue the success it has been synonymous with.

John Meagher’s experience, attention to detail and treatment of his horses as individuals combined with the boys’ modern thinking and exuberance are the right mix for the partnership’s ongoing success.

The Meagher team prepared nearly 600 winners in Singapore and became the first Singapore stable to winning a race in Dubai when it won a Listed type race at the 2005 Dubai Racing Carnival.

John Meagher, who prepared What A Nuisance to win the 1985 Melbourne Cup, is the most successful trainer ever to settle in Brisbane with nearly 2800 wins, 26 Group One wins and around 60 Group Two, Three and Listed races to his name.

Meagher once prepared five winners from eight races on Emirates Stakes day and was twice leading trainer over the four-day VRC Melbourne Cup carnival.

“The Queensland life style and climate is much to our liking,” Dan Meagher said.

“We are very optimistic about the future of racing in Queensland and prizemoney is going up in September.

“Eventually we will have a satellite stable in either Melbourne or Sydney.

"When we bring horses down for the spring and autumn carnivals we have our property 30 minutes from Melbourne, Huntly Lodge, which we will be based at.
