HORSE racing has been ingrained within the culture of Alice Springs for decades; as the largest town in the Northern Territory, it regards the sport among its chief attractions.

One of the primary reasons why horse racing fans flock to Alice Springs for racing is because of the Pioneer Park racetrack - a picturesque and expansive stretch of land that stands as one of the country’s finest.

Come April this year, thoroughbreds will once again gallop their way down the famed track in hopes of winning one of the country’s most renowned races - the  Alice Springs Cup Carnival.  Arguably the finest showcase of Outback racing, it is one of the most eagerly awaited racing events of the year, for both enthusiasts and punters alike.

Punting remains one of the greatest pleasures of the Alice Springs Cup Carnival with approximately a $80,000 at stake during the Pioneer Sprint; while a total of $100,000 is up for grabs during the XXXX Gold Cup. There are numerous betting outlets including Ladbrokes.com.au  in which you can place your bets for the various races, as well as sites which offer information on free bets or betting promotions, including au.freebets.com.

Six important dates comprise the 2014 Alice Springs Cup Carnival, which span the month of April and the first week of May. First up is the Girl’s Day Out that falls on the 12th of April, which aims to promote fashion for the succeeding Carnival events. The Family Day comes next on the 19th of April, which should be a fun-filled day for the kids, as jumping castles and other play equipment litter the grounds. The following Saturday, April 26, is the Ladies’ Day, in which a banquet will be set-up in the marquee overlooking the MacDonnell Ranges.

The homestretch of the Alice Springs Cup Carnival arrives come May. The XXXX Gold Luncheon is scheduled on May 2, an event of food, beverage, entertainment, as well as some expert racing advice from guest speakers (great for those who are not seasoned punters!) May 3 is the day of the Pioneer Sprint, which could prove to be both extremely exhilarating and rewarding if luck is on your side; with May 5 being the last day of the Carnival. More fun, fashion, and of course, horse racing, can be expected during this day. Last but not least, the XXXX Gold Cup falls on this day, which is the most prized horse race in all of Central Australia.

See you at the races!
