HORSE racing has been ingrained within the culture of Alice Springs for decades; as the largest town in the Northern Territory, it regards the sport among its chief attractions.

Come April this year, thoroughbreds will once again gallop their way down the famed track in hopes of winning one of the country’s most renowned races - the Alice Springs Cup Carnival. Arguably the finest showcase of Outback racing, it is one of the most eagerly awaited racing events of the year, for both enthusiasts and punters alike.
Punting remains one of the greatest pleasures of the Alice Springs Cup Carnival with approximately a $80,000 at stake during the Pioneer Sprint; while a total of $100,000 is up for grabs during the XXXX Gold Cup. Six important dates comprise the 2014 Alice Springs Cup Carnival, which span the month of April and the first week of May. May 3 is the day of the Pioneer Sprint, which could prove to be both extremely exhilarating and rewarding if luck is on your side; with May 5 being the last day of the Carnival. More fun, fashion, and of course, horse racing, can be expected during this day. Last but not least, the XXXX Gold Cup falls on this day, which is the most prized horse race in all of Central Australia.
