FOLLOWING an extensive consultation period, the 2014/15 race schedules for the three Queensland racing codes have been approved by the Racing Queensland Board.

It is important to note there are a number of industry infrastructure projects currently under review by the industry and government.

Approval of these projects will affect the scheduling and location of some race meetings. Those infrastructure projects include Logan and Albion Park (Greyhounds); Eagle Farm and Townsville (Thoroughbreds); and Albion Park, Gold Coast and Redcliffe (Harness).

There are currently no significant changes to the thoroughbred schedule for 2014/15. However, scheduling continues to strategically drive RQ’s objective of attracting top quality race horses to compete in Queensland, and in particular the Winter Racing Carnival.

As we move forward on the business case for Eagle Farm, a second racing schedule has been drafted for rapid implementation in the event of government approval.

The harness race schedule was created through extensive industry consultation. A total of 331harness meetings are planned for 2014/15. RQ continues to build on the positive changes introduced in 2013/14, with racing on Monday’s and selected Sunday opportunities with Sky Racing 2 coverage.

The 2014/15 greyhound race schedule sees an increase in the number of TAB meetings and a slight reduction in the number of non-TAB meetings. Overall TAB race meetings will increase to 468 from 411, non-TAB meetings will decrease from 159 to 133.

The recent approval of a new greyhound track at Logan may affect the racing schedule in the second half of the financial year.

Racing Queensland looks forward to another exciting season of racing and achieving positive outcomes for the industry.
