STEWARDS reports for Randwick, Caulfield and Doomben on Saturday:

 

RANDWICK

RACE 1: Widden Kindergarton 1100m:
As C Brown was delayed, C Williams, was substituted as the rider of Kaepernick. Loved Up was slow to begin. Donelle knuckled over on jumping. Approaching the 900m Loved Up was steadied to avoid the heels of Hallowed Crown (C Reith) which, after being taken in slightly by Kaepernick, shifted in away from that runner. Whilst the Stewards accepted that the racing manners of Hallowed Crown had significantly contributed to the incident, C Reith was advised to exercise more care. Approaching the 600m Kuro shifted out and made contact with Redoutable Heart. When questioned regarding the performance of Echo Gal, T Berry stated his mount laid out rounding the home turn and then gave ground very quickly and finished distanced. A post-race veterinary examination of Echo Gal revealed the filly to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Stable representative Mr M Newnham was advised he would be required to report the results of an ECG and Echo Gal would have to trial to the Stewards’ satisfaction prior to racing again. When questioned, C Williams, rider of Kaepernick, reported that his mount did not handle the heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of Kaepernick did not reveal any abnormalities. App. W Costin explained to the Stewards that on straightening she felt I Am Snippety blunder and break down badly. I Am Snippety was humanely euthanased and sent to the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Camden for necropsy. Trainer Mr N Osborne will be asked to produce veterinary records for I Am Snippety. The inquiry into the filly breaking down was adjourned to a date to be fixed. The section of the track was inspected by the Stewards and no issues were detected.

RACE 2: The Daily Telegraph Carbine Club Stakes 1600m:
As G Schofield could not make the weight, C Schofield was substituted as the rider of Casino Dancer. G Schofield was fined $300 under AR120(b). Rock Sturdy jumped awkwardly. Ryker was slow to begin. O’Reilly’s Revenge was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. When questioned, N Rawiller, rider of Equator, stated he had not been instructed to ride the gelding back in the field, but rather to look for cover. He added, on jumping away, he felt he would have been trapped four wide and therefore elected to ease back. He said that, although Equator, had not handled the soft going, it was most disappointing and he had recommended to the connections to apply blinkers to the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination of Equator did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr M Newnham stated that, in his view, Equator had not handled the heavy track. He undertook to report if there is anything amiss with Equator subsequent to the race. When questioned, C Reith, rider of Sinjoren, was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of the colt. A post-race veterinary examination of Sinjoren did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 3: The Other Woman P J Bell Stakes 1200m:
Fare Well, which was fractious in its stall, reared when the gates were released and missed the start (3L). Trainer Mr C Conners advised that Fare Well appeared to be coming into season, but undertook to remedy the barrier manners of the filly. Flight Academy was slow to begin. Nuclear Class sprawled on jumping away, taking Champagne Cath out, which collided heavily with Miss Tenpins. Dublin Lass made the home turn awkwardly, taking Nuclear Class wider on the track. Champagne Cath was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. When questioned, D Oliver, rider of Calming Influence, stated his mount was always under pressure racing close to the inside and did not handle the heavy going. A post-race veterinary examination of Calming Influence revealed the filly to have aggravated a speedy cut to the off hind pastern. Trainer Mr C Waller stated that Calming Influence had not handled the heavy track and undertook to report if there was anything amiss with the filly subsequent to the race.

RACE 4: Schweppes Chairman’s Handicap 2600m:
Opinion was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages. At the 200m Opinion had to be steadied away from the heels of Sertorius, which was taken out by Hippopus. When questioned, K O'Hara explained that it had not been by instruction that Lucky Liaison was ridden further back today, but rather, when Sertorius went forward, she elected to ease and obtain cover.

RACE 5: Inglis Sires’ 1400m:
Scratch Me Lucky jumped outwards and Time For War jumped inwards, which resulted in Peggy Jean, Lucky Raquie and Miss Interiors all being hampered at the start. On straightening Peggy Jean had to be directed back to the inside of the heels of Unknown Destiny to continue into clear running. Scratch Me Lucky (B Shinn) shifted out abruptly under pressure passing the 200m. B Shinn was told in similar circumstances he must straighten his mount earlier than he did on this occasion. Approaching the 100m Cornrow shifted out, hampering Zululand. C Williams, rider of Unencumbered, reported that his mount failed to handle the heavy track conditions. When questioned, G Schofield stated that Lucky Raquie travelled well throughout the race, but when asked to quicken at the entrance to the straight struggled to get through the heavy ground. A post-race veterinary examination of Lucky Raquie did not reveal any abnormalities. When questioned, B Avdulla stated that, whilst Believe Yourself handled the heavy track at Rosehill last Saturday, it was never comfortable in today’s going. A post-race veterinary examination of Believe Yourself did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 6: BMW Austtralian Derby 2400m:
Singing Flame jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Hooked. Solo Saga and Koroibete were slow to begin. When the pace steadied at the 1600m Crime Fighter had to be checked off the heels of Thunder Fantasy. In the incident Mountain View had to come off the heels of Surging Wave and was obliged to race three wide for some distance. Shortly thereafter Crime Fighter pulled its way up to the inside of the heels of Thunder Fantasy and, when Thunder Fantasy shifted in, Crime Fighter was taken in, causing Teronado to be tightened. Koroibete, which was following, was hampered in consequence. Tupac Amaru overraced in the middle stages. For some distance passing the 600m Singing Flame was tightened between Thunder Fantasy and Criterion, which was shifting out to improve. On straightening Teronado shifted in and bumped Gallatin. Approaching the 200m Savvy Nature had to alter course back to the inside of Tupac Amaru, which shifted out under pressure. When questioned, C Newitt, rider of Teronado, stated his mount never handled the heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of Teronado did not reveal any abnormalities. A post-race veterinary examination of Crime Fighter revealed the gelding had been galloped on to the off hind heel and lost its off hind plate. A post-race veterinary examination of Criterion revealed the colt to have sustained a small wound to the off fore cannon region.

RACE 7: Darley T J Smith Stakes 1200m:
Aeronautical, which sat down in the gates, was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer behind the barrier and passed fit to start. Near the 900m See The World, which was inclined to overrace, had to be restrained off the heels of Sessions (K McEvoy), which shifted in. In the incident See The World was taken in and briefly tightened Shamexpress. K McEvoy was told to ensure he is two lengths clear when shifting ground. When being steadied off the heels of Rebel Dane near the 700m Bel Sprinter, shifted in and bumped Aeronautical. When questioned, B Avdulla, rider of Snitzerland, reported his mount was inclined to hang out and did not run out the journey on the heavy track. A post-race veterinary examination of Snitzerland did not reveal any abnormalities. When questioned, B Shinn, rider of Steps In Time, reported his mount did not handle the heavy track. A post-race veterinary examination of Steps In Time did not reveal any abnormalities. C Newitt, rider of the winner, Lankan Rupee, was fined $500 under AR137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. Famous Seamus lost its near hind plate in the event.

RACE 8: The Star Doncaster Mile 1600m:
Weary jumped out at the start and inconvenienced Sacred Falls. A post-race veterinary examination of Weary revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the near hind fetlock. Rounding the first turn Streama (H Bowman) shifted in, taking Messene in onto El Roca. At the 1400m El Roca had to be steadied away from the heels of Fat Al. H Bowman was told to ensure he is two lengths clear when shifting ground. Rounding the home turn Sacred Falls became awkward when it improved into a narrow run between Monton and Dear Demi, which resulted in Speediness being tightened. Speediness was then held up for some distance in the early part of the straight. Streama, which was commencing to weaken, raced in restricted ground approaching the 200m between Fat Al and Dissident, which was taken in slightly by Messene. Ninth Legion was inclined to shift ground out under pressure in the straight. When questioned, C Brown, rider of Messene, stated that his mount commenced to struggle in the going from the 800m and, whilst it continued to try hard, it gave ground quickly from the 200m.

RACE 9: TAB Adrian Knox Stakes 2000m:
Moorluv, which got its near hind leg up on the barrier partition, was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Blue Eyes was slow to begin. Lady Cumquat, which began very awkwardly, had to be checked shortly after the start when High Harmony ran out. N Rawiller stated, after this incident, Lady Cumquat was inclined to get its head up and took some time to settle. High Harmony continued to lay out making the first turn. After initially being taken out by Sweet Jaffa, Blue Eyes laid out away from that runner near the 700m and made contact with Devil Miss. When questioned, K O'Hara, rider of High Harmony, stated the filly did not handle the wet track, particularly at its first attempt at 2000m. When questioned, J McDonald (Moorluv) and H Bowman (Estonian Princess), stated their mounts did not run out the distance. Post-race veterinary examinations of Estonian Princess, Moorluv and High Harmony did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

CAULFIELD

Race 1 – SPORTINGBET.COM.AU HANDICAP - 2400 metres:

Trainer P Carey advised that it was the stable’s intention to endeavour to have Beauty Perception (NZ) ridden with cover due to the small field. Beauty Perception (NZ) settled mid field, one out and one back, behind Westsouthwest (NZ).

Sneak A Peek (ITY) over raced in the early and middle stages and then hung out rounding the home turn.

On the point of the home turn Only A Pleasure (IRE) brushed the running rail.

Beauty Perception (NZ) lay in rounding the home turn and in the straight.

Near the 200 metres Sneak A Peek (ITY), which was laying out under pressure, bumped Beliveau.

C Symons (Only A Pleasure IRE) reported his mount was under pressure from the 800 metres and making an abnormal respiratory noise on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination of Only A Pleasure (IRE) did not reveal any abnormality and the endoscopic examination proved to be clear.

S Guymer, rider of Sneak A Peek (ITY), which performed below market expectations, explained that, in his opinion, the gelding went a bit hard in the early and middle stages and for this reason failed to respond to his riding. A post race veterinary examination of Sneak A Peek (ITY) did not reveal any abnormality and a post race swab sample was taken for analysis.  Stewards will follow up with trainer P Moody regarding Sneak A Peek.

Race 2 – MINDY GREEN PLATE - 1200 metres: 

The explanation tendered for Discern arriving late on course was due to traffic delays, which the stable had notified to the Stewards en route.

Discern, which was slow to begin, was then inconvenienced when Kodinhi (NZ) and Hunters Grace both shifted ground at the start. Hunters Grace shifted in after being bumped by Bullpit.

Also at the start Pressing jumped a little awkwardly and was momentarily tightened for room between Light Up Manhattan and Armada, which shifted out.

Discern raced very greenly throughout.

On the point of the home turn Discern was checked when disappointed for clear running between Selvatico and Hunters Grace and then shifted back towards the inside passing the 300 metres. Discern then continued to lay in under pressure in the straight.

Kodinhi (NZ) lay out under pressure in the straight.

During the running of the event Hunters Grace cast the off fore plate.

J Winks (Bullpit) advised that, in his opinion, the gelding was not suited by today’s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

D Gauci (Selvatico) advised that the gelding was not suited by today’s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

Race 3 – ECHUCAMOAMA.COM HANDICAP - 1400 metres: 

B Egan (Boys On Tour) suffered a harmless fall en route to the barrier.

Digitalism jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of Cyclone Andy.

Near the 1300 metres Cyclone Andy had to be steadied to avoid the heels of The New Boy, which shifted in before being straightened.

Rounding the home turn until approaching the 200 metres Notice Received (NZ) was held up for clear running.

In the early part of the straight Boys On Tour, which was inclined to lay in, after passing the 300 metres, had to be checked and shifted out across the heels of Laohu to obtain a clear run.

Inside the 300 metres Zuma Roc, which was making ground quickly, had to be checked and shifted in abruptly to avoid the heels of Laohu, which was weakening.

Zuma Roc again had to change course passing the 100 metres to obtain an uninterrupted run to the winning post when still making ground.

J Mott, rider of Laohu, which performed below market expectations, explained that the gelding failed to respond to his riding from the 400 metres after he used his mount up in the early stages to gain a position closer to the rail. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

J Noonan, rider of Digitalism, which performed below market expectations, indicated that the gelding would benefit from today’s run.  A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

C Symons (Lord Durante) reported that the gelding felt lethargic throughout the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering an elevated heart rate.

Race 4 – STORY LANDSCAPING HANDICAP - 1400 metres: 

A short distance after the start  I Am Titanium lost ground when having to avoid the heels of Lucky Striker, which shifted in.

Paradou raced wide without cover.

Tikitour commenced to over race passing the 1200 metres when being restrained and then lost ground sharply when it threw its head up.

For some distance passing the 400 metres Silent Saga raced in restricted room to the inside of Washington Square.

Rounding the home turn Tikitour was held up for clear running.

Also on the home turn Saguaro had to be checked to avoid the heels of Resistant.

Approaching  the 200 metres Silent Saga, which was weakening, got its head up when being restrained to avoid the heels of Senor Juez, which shifted out slightly under pressure.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on Self Sense today, when ridden positively to lead, rider J Mott explained that from the extreme outside barrier he was instructed to roll forward and as a result he was obliged to take up the lead or be caught extremely wide. Co-trainer D Feek confirmed the instructions, due to the wide barrier draw, but there were no specific instructions to lead.  Stewards advised Mr Feek that in similar circumstances, in future, he would be better served by notifying such change of tactics to the Stewards within thirty minutes of the race.

M Zahra, rider of Reldas, which performed below market expectations, believes the colt may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality and a post race swab sample was taken for analysis. Stewards will follow up with trainer R Smerdon regarding Reldas.

J Noonan (Senor Juez) could offer no excuse for the gelding’s disappointing performance today other than it raced like a tired horse. A post race veterinary examination of Senor Juez did not reveal any abnormality. The stable advised Stewards that the gelding will be assessed in the ensuing days before making a determination as to whether it should be spelled.

Race 5 – EASTERN BRIDGE GALILEE SERIES FINAL - 2400 metres: 

The Terricks raced wide without cover.

Near the 500 metres De Little Engine knuckled.

Rounding the home turn Family Pride (NZ)  hung out and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Throw The King.

Rounding the home turn Calendar Lad was unable to improve its position when held up until inside the 300 metres.

In the straight De Little Engine lay in under pressure.

Near the 100 metres Falamonte (NZ), which was giving ground, had to be checked to avoid the heels of Calendar Lad (K Mallyon) and Honey Steel’s Gold (J Noonan), both of which shifted ground. K Mallyon and J Noonan were reprimanded for permitting their mounts to shift ground when not clear of other runners.

D Moor (Family Pride NZ), which performed below market expectations,  explained that the gelding felt flat throughout the race and failed to respond to his riding in the straight. A post race veterinary examination of Family Pride (NZ) did not reveal any abnormality.

A post race veterinary examination of Calendar Lad revealed the colt to be lame in the near fore and had also shifted a hind plate. Trainer G Eurell was notified that a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.

 Race 6 – 7-ELEVEN PINK RIBBON CUP - 1200 metres: 

Forty Thirty knuckled on jumping away and as a result settled back in the field.

D Smith (Mandala) reported the gelding has had a short let up between runs, however, failed to travel at any stage during  today’s event and advised that he had recommended the gelding be sent for a spell. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.  Stewards will follow up with trainer M Price regarding Mandala.

Race 7 – CATH WHITE MEMORIAL HANDICAP - 1100 metres: 

Kneeling jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

Secret Toy Bizness jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Elite Elle.

J Beriman (Elite Elle) was fined $200 for breaching the provisions of AR175(k) in that she negligently failed to weigh out with a surcingle.

M Walker (Caprossa) reported the mare made an abnormal respiratory noise. Post-race endoscopy of Caprossa detected a throat condition that may have affected the horse’s racing performance. The horse was referred to the trainer’s veterinary practitioner for further assessment. Co-trainer P Jones was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the mare racing again.

Race 8 – THE PAVILLION PLATE - 1700 metres:  

Kitten On The Run (USA) was slow to begin.

Niblick over raced in the early and middle stages.

Taiyoo raced wide without cover.

Ruscello commenced to weaken sharply from the 600 metres

Inside the 100 metres Lord Wimble, which was making some ground, had to be steadied and shifted in to obtain clear running when disappointed for a run between Flying Hussler and Backstedt, which shifted out under pressure, when hanging.

During the running of the event Backstedt cast the near fore plate and Dylanson cast the off fore plate.

D Gauci, rider of Ruscello (IRE), which was eased down in the straight, explained that near the 400 metres his mount started to make an abnormal respiratory noise and started to give round very quickly. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

H Coffey (Taiyoo) reported his mount worked hard in the early and middle stages and as a result failed to finish off as expected. A post race veterinary examination of Taiyoo did not reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken for analysis. Stewards will follow up with trainer D Weir regarding Taiyoo.

C Symons (Maules Creek) could offer no explanation for the performance of the gelding. Stewards will follow up with co-trainers P Morgan and C Widdison.

 

DOOMBEN

Race 1: Coca-Cola Amatil QTIS 2YO H'Cap - 1200m

After being boxed SAMBUCA SHOT (App T. Harrison) broke through the front of the gates and was quickly restrained, returned to the start, examined and declared suitable to race.

On jumping SOVEREIGN SON (T. Bell) was bumped by LEGAL COUNSEL (Matthew Palmer), which shifted in.

COMBATANT (Michael Palmer) was inconvenienced at the start between OUT LATE (B. Stewart) and MISTER BOOZE (M. Cahill), which shifted out.

Shortly after straightening DESPINA (J. Byrne) was steadied when disappointed for a run between LEGAL COUNSEL and SOVEREIGN SON, which shifted in slightly.

After the 200m SAMBUCA SHOT was bumped on a couple of occasions by LEGAL COUNSEL.

A post race veterinary examination of MISTER BOOZE revealed the colt to have sustained abrasions over both eyes and was subsequently found to be shin sore. Trainer K. Clark-Peoples advised MISTER BOOZE will now be spelled.

A post race veterinary examination of SAMBUCA SHOT revealed the gelding to have sustained a small puncture wound to the off fore cannon.

CANNIZZARO (App L. Tarrant) lost its off fore plate during running.


Race 2: Kirks Open H'Cap - 2030m

COLLAR (T. Bell) when racing without cover outside the lead pulled hard in the early and middle stages of the event.

Inside the final 100m POSTE RESTANTE (App S. Payne) raced in restricted room and consequently could not be fully tested.

A post race veterinary examination of HIGH KIN (E. Wilkinson) revealed the mare to be sore over the hind quarters. Trainer S. MacKinnon was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to HIGH KIN again racing.

A post race veterinary examination of HEARTFELT QUEST (M. Cahill) revealed the gelding to have sustained a small laceration to the medial near fore cannon.

A post race veterinary examination of SECRET GARDEN (B. El-Issa) revealed the mare was stepping short in front following the event.


Race 3: Mount Franklin Sparkling Fillies & Mares Benchmark 85 H'Cap - 1350m

TICKET TO DREAM (G. Colless) stood flatfooted and missed the start.

Shortly after straightening MATABRAHMA (App R. Jamieson) raced in restricted room between ELLIE LA VIE (App T. Wolfgram) and TICKET TO DREAM, which improved outside the heels of ANTARCTIC DREAM (J. Byrne). A short distance later MATABRAHMA was checked and shifted across the heels of ELLIE LA VIE when TICKET TO DREAM shifted out further.

For a major part of the home straight MISS BRADBURY (C. Munce) was badly held up and unable to be fully tested at any stage of the event.

ELUSIVE STORM (App S. Payne) raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

M. Cahill stated that TAMBO'S JEWEL travelled well and whilst it raced in restricted room in the early stages of the straight the mare did not finish the race off as he would expected. A post race veterinary examination of TAMBO'S JEWEL revealed no abnormalities.

App T. Harrison reported at scale that it was not her intention to lead on DANYME.
Race 4: Canadian Club Class 6 H'Cap - 1200m

NOOGOORA BURR (A. Spinks) was slow into stride.

In the middle stages COVERT CHARMOUR (C. Munce), which was inclined to race keenly, had to be restrained off the heels of CLEAVER (L. Cassidy).


Race 5: Jim Beam Open H'Cap - 1110m

ALTAI WARRIOR (G. Colless) and PURE PURRFECTION (T. Bell) were both slow to begin.

FLORIDA FELLOW (App J.K. Johnson) raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.


Race 6: Powerade Class 6 H'Cap - 1630m

EMPRESS ME (App P. Schmidt), which was standing awkwardly in its gate, was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1300m TRAGEDY (G. Cooksley), which was overracing, was restrained off the heels of KURTLEY (App T. Wolfgram). REVITALISE (App A. Butler) which was also racing keenly and following TRAGEDY was checked in consequence.

Near the 150m App T. Wolfgram (KURTLEY) was obliged to stop riding when briefly tightened for room by HEART OF MANY (C. Munce), which shifted in.

CABALLO RAPIDO (B. El-Issa) was held up for clear running after passing the 200m and close to the finishing line had to alter course to the inside of GRAYSON SQUARE (M. Cahill) to obtain clear running.

DYSFUNCTION (T. Bell) raced wide without cover throughout the event.

C. Munce reported that HEART OF MANY when racing without cover raced keenly and as a result he allowed the gelding to slide forward and lead leaving the 800m.

G. Cooksley reported that TRAGEDY was inclined to lay in in the straight.


Race 7: Goulburn Valley 3YO Plate - 1350m

VINTAGE COGNAC was declared a late scratching at 11.25 a.m. by order of stewards after the stable advised that they were made aware this morning by a staff member that VINTAGE COGNAC had inadvertently been treated with a substance whilst receiving dental work yesterday morning. The explanation tendered by co-trainer Mr D Meagher for this error was accepted by stewards.

Trainer K. Schweida advised OOSTHUIZEN would be ridden back in the field today from the wide barrier. The horse was ridden accordingly.

ARCHITECT (A. Spinks) was slow into stride.

Passing the 900m STRAIGHT SHOOTER (App J.K. Johnson) was checked when crowded for room inside MARSCAY FORCE (Matthew Palmer), which after initially being taken in slightly by LUCKY BLACK (C. Munce), then hung in away from that horse. As a result of this crowding STRAIGHT SHOOTER struck the rail and when being checked lost ground, resulting in VOODOO BLUE MAGIC (J. Byrne), which was following also being restrained.

After the 800m STRAIGHT SHOOTER commenced to overrace carrying FRIENDLY DRAGON (B. Stewart) wider on the track.

In the straight ARCHITECT hung in very badly and whilst being shifted wider, its rider dropped his offside rein from the 200m.

For the entire length of the straight BODEGA NEGRA (K. Wharton) was unable to obtain clear running when held up behind MARSCAY FORCE and inside of PADRINO (App A. Allen).


Race 8: Mount Franklin Colts, Geldings & Entires Benchmark 85 H'Cap - 1350m

FIVE O'CLOCK (B. El-Issa), WRITTEN ABOVE ALL (T. Bell) and FANTASTIC BLUE (App M. McGuren) were all slow to begin.

FIVE O'CLOCK raced very keenly in the early stages on the heels of CRACCO (App A. Allen).

From the entrance to the straight CUM DIVIDEND (App T. Wolfgram) was held up until near the 200m when it was shifted to the inside of PLAYACTION (J. Taylor).

CARMORA (M. Cahill) raced 3 wide without cover.
