SIR MICHAEL STOUTE LENDS A HELPING HAND WITH WARRINGAH

FAMED English trainer Sir Michael Stoute is guiding Chris Waller with the preparation of import Warringah for next Tuesday’s $5.65m Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington.

Waller said at Sandown this morning that Stoute, the former trainer of Warringah, had been very
helpful with his advice on what the Sydney trainer should do with his new acquisition.

One of Stoute’s staff, Elaine Westgate, is looking after Warringah until after the Melbourne Cup.
“I’ve been speaking to Sir Michael regularly and it was he who said Warringah did not need to
gallop with a companion as we had planned to do this morning,” Waller said.

Instead Warringah had a strong gallop on his own over 1600 metres while Munsef, who was to
have worked with him, did a similar gallop alone.

Damien Oliver was to have ridden Warringah this morning but he had an early commitment at
Bendigo and track rider Nadine Ford took over.

“It doesn’t really matter if Damien rides him before the cup or not,” Waller said.

Warringah will be Waller’s first runner in the Melbourne Cup and his expectations are not high. “I’m not expecting to win the cup (but) I’m expecting him to be competitive,” he said.

Kerrin McEvoy will ride Kirklees in a gallop tomorrow and the Godolphin stable will decide on
Friday if stablemate Crime Scene races in blinkers in the Melbourne Cup.

Changingoftheguard bowled around over 2400 metres this morning and David Hayes continues to
be impressed by the four-year-old.

Hayes said Changingoftheguard would canter for about 2000 metres tomorrow before joining
Mourilyan for a 1000 metre sprint. He will have his final gallop over 2000 metres on Sunday.

Hayes added that the import was at least as good as Mahler, another three-year-old by northern
hemisphere time, who finished third behind Efficient in the 2007 Melbourne Cup.
