A FORMER Victorian jockey who is alleged to have racially vilified Adam Goodes on social media could be thrown out of the industry after being charged by Racing Victoria with conduct prejudicial to the image of the sport.

CAROLINE WILSON & PATRICK BARTLEY report for THE AGE that Daniel Schmitt, who was a star apprentice with Melbourne Cup-winning trainer David Hall, was scheduled to appear on Friday at Flemington before the Racing and Disciplinary Appeals Board after posting the highly offensive tweet on July 13.

Both the Sydney Swans and the AFL were alerted to the social media attack with the league's integrity unit holding talks with its racing counterpart over the issue.

On Thursday the AFL said it had been satisfied that Racing Victoria would move to sanction Schmitt.

Schmitt, 36, who now works as a track rider, posted a photograph of Goodes alongside the comment: "Orangutang on the loose from the Melbourne Zoo. Here is a last known picture. Approach with care."

The Racing and Disciplinary Appeals Board has the power to revoke Schmitt's licence to ride trackwork. He also faces a second charge of posting demeaning photographs of racing stewards.

The Swans and the AFL have been cautious in the past about drawing attention to vile racial attacks on social media directed at Goodes or other Indigenous players.
