ONE of my favourite jockeys in Queensland is Lacey Morrison. She’s definitely one of the best riders in the state outside of the south-east corner.
However, she made a rare blue on Saturday at Townsville, weighing in light on a runner. Luckily, the horse finished sixth, so it didn’t prove too costly, but it’s a reminder that even experienced pros can get it wrong from time to time.
Tasked with riding Indefinite at 61kg, Lacey returned to scale at 60.3kg, according to the Stewards’ Report.
The Bodine Bailey-trained galloper was rightly disqualified, losing a $400 minor prizemoney cheque in the process.
