GOD HELP THE INDUSTRY WITH MATT McGRATH AS RQ CHAIRMAN & HIS ‘BOY FRIDAY’ AS CEO – BUT DON’T EXPECT ANY MAJOR CHANGES

JIMMY H of BRISBANE writes:

‘As a racing stakeholder for more years than I care to remember, thanks for printing that photo of new RQ Chairman Matt McGrath. Apart from those he visited during the supposedly independent Industry Review, none of us have seen him or would know what he looks like.

LGHR has tagged him the ‘Invisible Man’ which is quite appropriate. How the Racing Minister could appoint a Sydneysider to the job of RQ Chairman which some say he basically created for himself remains a mystery? Many in the industry are still smarting not only because the appointment of a Sydneysider was an insult to the dozens of good locals who good do the job better but also because they never see him. The bloke reportedly flew north on a Tuesday recently to attend a Board meeting but failed to attend the launch of the Queensland Carnival that night.

I won’t go into whether Lachlan Murray is the right fit for the CEO role. It seems McGrath wants him, doesn’t want Mary Collyer (far better credentialed) and is keen to see the back of one of the best stewards in the world in Kim Kelly. Is there any positive for the industry in Queensland that he does want?’
