EMOTIONAL AWARD WINS TO PHELAN READY AND THE MCLACHLANS

THE Queensland Horse of the Year Awards last night (Saturday) recognized the Golden Slipper winning performance of Phelan Ready and his late trainer, Bruce McLachlan.

Phelan Ready was named Queensland Horse of the Year while McLachlan and his son, Jason, jointly won the Trainer of the Year title.

Queensland Hall of Fame member Bruce McLachlan, who won the Brisbane trainers’ premiership on 16 occasions, died suddenly in June of a heart attack. Jason has taken over the successful team.

Phelan Ready resumed racing with a luckless third in the Premiere Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

George Moore Jockey of the Year: Shane Scriven.

Ken Russell Apprentice of the Year: Brent Evans.
