JACKSON TAKES OVER AS CHAIRMAN AS MAIR LOSES BOARD SEAT

THERE has been a changing of the guard at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club with Don Jackson replacing long-serving Les Geeves as the Chairman.

Leading local trainer Mick Mair lost his position on the Board of Directors to Darcy Tyrrell, a former Queensland Racing executive.

Geeves, who was a member of the inaugural SCTC committee in 1982, will remain on the Board. Peter Boyce takes over as deputy chairman from Don Moffatt, who has retired.

Mair, who had served the SCTC for 10 years, was afforded life membership as was Moffatt. “It’s a real honor to be a life member of any club,” Mair told the Sunshine Coast Daily. “it’s been a fantastic few years and there’s been a lot of changes since I’ve been there.”

Geeves told the local newspaper: “I’m the only one left from the original Board from 1982 and I’ve had 13 wonderful years as chairman.

“We’ve got the lights here now and the cushion track, but there’s still a lot more hard work to be done.
I’ve worked very hard over the last few years and spent a lot of time on it. Now I’m going to let someone who is a bit younger than me do the hard work and I can sit back and relax.”

Geeves was highly confident the new look committee would succeed. “They’ll do a good job because they have the course at heart and that’s the main thing,” he said.
