RACING Queensland Limited (RQL) is pleased to announce that following an extensive recruitment process Mark Sweeney will soon commence in the role of Thoroughbred Racing Manager within RQL’s operations department.

Mark has vast racing experience having worked in the industry for over 25 years including stints with the Hunter and North West Racing Association as a Steward and then as a Race Club CEO, before relocating to Queensland to head up the licensing function.

Mark has since undertaken a role with RQL’s stewarding team and currently holds the position of Betting & Wagering Manager in RQL’s integrity department.

The appointment of Mark Sweeney as the Thoroughbred Racing Manager has coincided with a department restructure. Nathan Bourke has been appointed as Chief Handicapper and Race Programmer, allowing Lester Grimmett to move to a Senior Racing Advisory consultant.

Lester Grimmett has been an integral part of Queensland’s handicapping department for over 30 years and will transition to retirement in this advisory role assisting the development of both Mark and Nathan.
