RACING Minister Steve Dickson has announced a $2 million boost for thoroughbred training facilities across Queensland.

Mr Dickson said the 2012-13 Training Track Subsidy Scheme was a further part of the Newman Government’s commitment to rejuvenating racing in Queensland.

“The Newman Government is providing a fresh start for racing across the state, and continues to deliver on its promise to rebuild the industry,” Mr Dickson said.

“We’re providing an immediate injection of $1.2 million in funds to 37 thoroughbred race clubs this month, while a further $800,000 will be available for distribution later this financial year.

“Training facilities are vital to the operation of the industry but are a significant impost on individual race clubs.

“This funding helps to offset the cost to race clubs of providing high quality training facilities and keeping the industry viable, particularly in rural and regional areas.”

Mr Dickson said the remaining $800,000 would be available for clubs on the basis of the number of thoroughbred runners competing from those training facilities.

“This is an incentive to clubs to ensure they are attracting thoroughbred trainers to utilise their facilities,” he said.

“The Training Track Subsidy Scheme is a vital part of the LNP’s support for the Queensland racing industry; alongside the $4 million over four years to help rebuild country racing, $5 million over two years to support the Queensland Thoroughbred Incentive Scheme (QTIS) and our $110 million Racing Industry Capital Development Scheme.

“We’re providing tangible support for the racing industry, ensuring it can look to the future with confidence.”
