RACING Minister Steve Dickson, speaking after delivery of the State Budget, said the rejuvenation of country racing in Queensland remained one of his highest priorities.

“This financial year we are providing $1 million to fund 20 country race meetings, as well as providing $2.5 million for the Queensland Thoroughbred Investment Scheme (QTIS),” he said.

“In addition we will continue to fund major racing industry infrastructure projects.

“This year we’re investing $4.56 million towards finalizing phase one of the Gold Coast Turf Club’s $35.4 million redevelopment.

“This first stage includes the upgrade of members’ facilities and the construction of a new equine swimming pool.

“The Toowoomba Turf Club will receive an additional $2.7 million in 2013-14 towards the $6.9 million State Government funded new racing surface.

“The Newman Government has been unwavering in its commitment to restore accountability and integrity to the state’s racing industry, after the previous Labor Government allowed it to fall into ruin.

“We’ve fulfilled our election promise to rebuild a solid, accountable governance structure for racing from the ground up and our commitment to country racing is boosting rural economies in every corner of Queensland,” Mr Dickson said.
