FOLLOWING the Queensland Thoroughbred Racing Board (QTRB) meeting on Friday, $1.2 million has been allocated to progress design and engineering works for the Eagle Farm track reconstruction.

On June 2, the overarching Racing Queensland board requested the QTRB consider the Eagle Farm track reconstruction plan and action an outcome to progress this project as soon as possible.

Racing Queensland will therefore prepare a full scope of works and business case in conjunction with the Brisbane Racing Club to present to the Government for approval to use funding in the existing Industry infrastructure Strategy.

QTRB chairman Kevin Dixon said the board resolved to make the reconstruction of the Eagle Farm facility its highest priority in the thoroughbred infrastructure plan.

“Eagle Farm is our most important racing asset and therefore, it needs to be our main priority,” Mr Dixon said.

“It has been in desperate need of reconstruction for some time now and therefore, it is the board’s highest priority to deliver a premium track for our premium metropolitan product.

“The $1.2million will be used to gather data which we will use in our business case to utilise funds available from within the existing thoroughbred allocation of Industry Infrastructure Strategy funding.”

Expressions of interest will begin from the week commencing June 10, 2013.
