MORE TO SUMMER IN NORTH THAN JUST THE MAGIC MILLIONS CARNIVAL
QUEENSLAND will share the Summer Racing spotlight with Western Australia from this Saturday as the Sunshine State gears up for next month’s popular Magic Millions Carnival on the Gold Coast.
During the Summer Carnival in Queensland 14 Black Type races will be contested. In total there are 36 feature races carrying prizemoney of $75,000 or more each.
The headline act of course is the $2 million Magic Millions Classic, won last year by Phelan Ready before he went on to take out the Golden Slipper and come Australian Champion Australian Two-Year-Old.The Summer Carnival in Queensland moves into full swing this coming Saturday (December 5) with an addition to the Black Type rankings – the $100,000 Mode Stakes for three-year-old fillies run under set weight conditions at Doomben.
The Australian Pattern Committee acknowledged the quality of this race with its inclusion in the listings at its August meeting. Recent winners and placegetters include Gold Edition, Street Smart, Feline Flyer, La Montagna, Sequential Charm and Express Air.
Queensland Racing Limited has taken the decision to increase the prizemoney of this race from $75,000 to $100,000 and change the conditions to set weights to ensure the best possible field is attracted.
The $150,000 Vo Rogue Plate has been elevated to Group 3 level this Summer. It has been strategically positioned to provide a feature lead up for three-year-olds heading towards the $1 million Magic Millions Trophy.
The Magic Millions Carnival is again the pinnacle of the summer program and whether you are selling, buying, racing or just an interested onlooker, the Carnival and its associated events provide something for everyone. Undoubtedly, the great racing and a high quality catalogue of yearlings underpin this Carnival.
Last year’s Magic Millions Race Day was a record-breaker in terms of turnover and it is expected that the 2009/10 Carnival will maintain this momentum.
A new feature to the summer program is the running of the $150,000 QTIS 600 restricted race at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club on Sunshine Coast Cup Day. The race is for two-year-olds which have paid up for the QTIS 600 incentive scheme.
