RACING Queensland Limited (RQL) stewards have today dismissed objections lodged against the ownership registration of several 2013 Magic Millions Classic runners.

On January 30, 2013, formal objections under AR.161 and AR.166(a) and (d) of the Rules of Racing were lodged with RQL stewards in relation against:

a) Real Surreal;

b) Global Dream;

c) He’s A Ladies Man; and

d) Missy Longstocking.

RACING Queensland Limited (RQL) on Thursday announced as part of its operations and commitment to the racing industry, the inclusion of a secondary income to the Workers Compensation WorkCover Policy for jockey and apprentice jockeys.

RQL and the Queensland Jockeys Association (QJA) has worked together with WorkCover Queensland to negotiate the terms of this cover which will provide an increased level of cover for Queensland jockeys in the event of an accident.

THE 2013/14 race schedule for the three Queensland racing codes was approved by the Queensland Race Product Co on March 26, 2013 in line with the requirement to present the schedule prior to the end of March each year.

An extensive consultation period was undertaken by Racing Queensland Limited (RQL) to create the final versions of the race schedules.

THE dual-code thoroughbred and greyhound flood relief race meeting to be held at Bundaberg racecourse on Saturday, April 6, 2013 is nearing and officials are overwhelmed by the racing industry’s level of support.

The Bundaberg Race Club (BRC) president Mark McLean said the planning and preparations for the flood relief event were successfully underway and the support keeps rolling in.

“Six sponsors have come on board raising $20,000 of which the net revenue will be donated to the Bundaberg community,” he said.

THE Racing Queensland Limited board at its monthly meeting on March 26, 2013 committed to provide up to $150,000 of funding to the Mackay Turf Club to further investigate the development of oncourse stabling at Ooralea Park Racecourse.

The long term initiative to install oncourse stabling will assist the club to increase and secure the horse population for Mackay and the wider Leichardt region.

RACING Queensland Limited (RQL) has today announced that an additional $305,000 has been added to Wednesday provincial race meetings during April, May and June 2013 (Winter Carnival).

During this period the Gold Coast Turf Club and the Sunshine Coast Turf Club will host six Wednesday meetings.

RACING Queensland Limited (RQL) has today announced that a helicopter service will be available to transport jockeys from Doomben racecourse to the Toowoomba Turf Club on Saturday night, April 13, 2013 for the $150,000 Listed Weetwood Handicap.

Jockeys riding in the metropolitan meeting at Doomben will be able to board a chartered helicopter flight after the last race, and travel directly to Clifford Park to participate in Toowoomba’s premier night meeting.

RACING Queensland Limited (RQL) has recently been approached by Greyhound Racing New South Wales (GRNSW) and the Tweed Heads Coursing Club (THCC) with the proposal of transferring Border Park greyhound racing to Queensland’s racing jurisdiction.

Border Park, managed by THCC, is located adjacent to the Gold Coast on the Queensland and NSW border and is utilised by industry participants from both states.

RACING Minister Steve Dickson has announced a local Queensland company has been appointed to construct the first phase of the Gold Coast Turf Club (GCTC) redevelopment.

Mr Dickson said Alder Constructions had been awarded the contract for phase one of the project, which would see vital infrastructure improvements for the club.

“The Newman Government is continuing to deliver upon its commitment to rebuild the Queensland racing industry,” Mr Dickson said.
