STRATHALBYN Racecourse’s most successful export, eight-year-old gelding Alcopop, will be making a feature gallop at the much loved Langhorne Creek Vignerons Day this Sunday (November 18) before setting off for the bright lights of Hong Kong next week.

RACING Queensland Limited (RQL) in conjunction with the Toowoomba Turf Club (TTC) has today announced the $150,000 Listed Mainz Developments Weetwood Handicap has been moved to Saturday night, April 13, 2012.

The Listed Mainz Developments Weetwood Handicap run over 1200m will now be positioned as part of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival in April, providing progression for horses into races such  as the Listed Hinkler Handicap and Prime Minister’s Cup,  the Group 3 BRC Sprint and Group 2 QTC Cup.

Racing Queensland chairman Kevin Dixon believes the move has further strengthened the Winter Racing program in Queensland.

RACING Minister Steve Dickson this week introduced the Racing and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2012 in the Queensland Parliament.

This will see the abolishment of Racing Queensland Ltd as the control body and it will be replaced  by the Queensland all Codes Racing Industry Board.

Below is Mr Dickson’s statement to Parliament taken from the Queensland Government Hansard:

RACING Minister Steve Dickson today introduced a suite of changes to Queensland’s racing laws into Parliament, as the Newman Government continues to deliver upon its election commitments to the racing industry.

Mr Dickson said amendments to the Racing Act 2002, the Wagering Act 1998 and the Interactive Gambling (Player Protection) Act 1998 would restore integrity and accountability in the industry.

RACING Minister Steve Dickson has today announced Texas will hold the first of the Sustain Country Series race dates next year.

Mr Dickson said the Texas Jockey Club would host the race meeting on March 16 next year as part of the Newman Government’s commitment to rejuvenating country clubs, racing and their communities.

“We’re delivering an additional $4 million over four years to help rebuild country racing across Queensland,” he said.

RACING Minister Steve Dickson has today announced sweeping changes to Queensland’s racing laws as the Newman Government continues to rebuild the sport across the state.

Mr Dickson said amendments to the Racing Act 2002, the Wagering Act 1998 and the Interactive Gambling (Player Protection) Act 1998 would restore integrity and accountability in the industry, whilst giving industry participants a greater say in the industry’s future.

“The Newman Government is delivering on its promise of rejuvenating the racing industry in Queensland, after the Labor Party turned its back on the sector, handing control to a bunch of ‘Labor Mates’ and an influential union official who oversaw questionable multimillion dollar payouts and financial mismanagement,” he said.

THERE appears to be one major flaw in the LNP Government plan to revamp the racing industry in Queensland and it won’t please those calling for representation from the country.

With the merged Board dead and buried, the three codes will appoint independent control bodies responsible for the day-to-day running of gallops, greyhounds and harness racing.

But there will be an umbrella body that will oversee what the code control bodies do. It will replace Racing Queensland Limited and will be known as the Queensland All Codes Racing Industry Board.

RACING Queensland chairman Kevin Dixon jumped at the opportunity in early October to bag websites for publishing rumors circulating in the industry that the top stable of Tony Gollan had positive swabs.

Dixon went to great lengths to point out that the Gollan stable had no case to answer at the time and one of his ‘sir echoes’ in the racing media even penned a column talking about the ‘code of ethics’ for journalists and how websites should apologize for the embarrassment caused to the young trainer.

Low and behold at the Deagon bunker yesterday Gollan was fronting a swab inquiry and surprise, surprise it involved a positive from September – rumors of which the websites were reporting and copping a bashing for.
