RACING Queensland has received another indicator of the success of the recent Jeep Magic Millions Carnival, with the release of official figures from bookmakers revealing significant increases in wagering turnover.

Following on from the success of the inaugural 2015 Origin Jockey Series, which also saw a spike in wagering turnover during the month of December, Racing Queensland recorded an increase in both on-course and overall turnover on Magic Millions Raceday on Saturday, January 9.

RACING Queensland has strengthened its support for Queensland race clubs across all three racing codes, with the establishment of a new team designed to directly assist clubs in developing for the future.

In an initiative developed under the State Government’s Country Racing package, experienced racing administrator David Aldred has moved from the role as Operations Manager - Harness to the new role of Club Liaison and Development Manager.

RACING Queensland Stewards have today disqualified Apprentice Luke Tarrant from racing for a period of six months after he pleaded guilty to taking a banned substance.

Tarrant today pleaded guilty to a charge under AR81A(1)(a), in that on 2 December 2015 he provided a sample of urine to the Stewards, which upon analysis was found to contain substances banned under AR81(B), namely the metabolites of cocaine.

DARRYL Hansen has vowed to take his fight against a nine-month ban even further if his appeal is rejected by the Racing Disciplinary Board.

BRAD DAVIDSON, Queensland's leading racing writer reports in the GOLD COAST BULLETIN that Hansen, the trainer of this year’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Le Chef, faced the Racing Disciplinary Board last week as he appeals against a nine-month ban courtesy of an elevated TCO2 reading being re corded by How Can I Help prior to finishing fifth in a race at Ipswich on August 14.

WITH the return to racing at Eagle Farm, Racing Queensland has announced a 12 week Queensland Winter Racing Carnival program for 2016.

After a review of the performance of the 2015 Queensland Winter Carnival and comprehensive consultation with Clubs, Racing Queensland has opted to extend the 2016 Carnival which will commence with the Toowoomba Turf Club’s meeting on 16 April and conclude with the running of the Sunshine Coast Turf Club race day at Caloundra on 2 July, 2016.

THE Brisbane Racing Club today announced a profit for 2014-15 despite the challenges of a year “unlike any seen before” in Queensland’s racing history.

BRC Chairman Neville Bell told today’s annual general meeting that the Club had posted a profit of $260,000 despite budgeting for a loss of $390,000 while its largest track was closed for redevelopment.

RACING Queensland has announced the 2015 Queensland Racing Thoroughbred Awards, including the coveted Queensland Horse of the Year, will be held at Doomben Racecourse on Monday October 12, 2015.

Racing Queensland Acting CEO Ian Hall said following recent industry consultation meetings, key industry stakeholders would come together to deliver the awards.

TALENTED jockey BRAD STEWART has been received a suspended 12 months sentence and fined $3,000 for betting with TABCORP and CROWNBET. If he re-offends during that period he will have to serve three months.

Stewart pleaded guilty charges relating to accounts with the two betting operators between July 2013 and March 2015 and was given a suspended sentence. in view of the seriousness of the charge and his circumstances.

POPULAR Queensland race caller Pat O'Shea has died after a short illness.

AAP reports that the 64-year-old underwent surgery for bowel cancer last Monday but died on Saturday night in Toowoomba's St Andrew's Hospital.

O'Shea had a long career calling many sports and was the voice of Toowoomba racing for three decades.
