BRILLIANT MOODY FILLY ON THE COMEBACK TRAIL AFTER UNDERGOING SURGERY

THERE has been a strong early betting move for the Peter Moody-trained filly, Avenue, which is resuming in the Sofitel Girls Day Out at Flemington on Saturday.

TAB Sportsbet Media Manager, Glen Munsie, said Avenue had been ‘backed off the map’ from her opening Fixed Odds quote of $2.90 to $2.10 and could start even shorter.

There were some quick wagers including $4,000 and $1,900 at $2.90, $8,000 and $500 at $2.50, then $2,000 at $2.25 forcing her price in to $2.10.

Avenue, a full sister to Group 1 winner, Virage de Fortune, has not raced since scoring a brilliant debut win at Moonee Valley in February. But she has since undergone surgery and had a long recuperative spell.

“She had a chip removed from her knee post her last run,” Moody said. “She’s had a good break and she’s furnished into a nice filly. She’s very talented will run well down the straight on Saturday.”

The Paul Murray-trained Phenomenal Lass and Orbiting Belle, from the Mick Price stable, are the closest to Avenue in Saturday’s betting at $7.50 and $8 respectively.

Avenue is being set for the G1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas, 1600m, at Caulfield on October 14 and is a $26 chance in early markets.

Boom Moody-trained filly Black Caviar is a short-priced favorite at $1.70 for Saturday’s G2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington ahead of the Gai Waterhouse-trained Manhattan Rain at $6.

Meanwhile, there has been some strong early support for the Hawkes-trained O’Lonhro in the G2 Chelmsford Stakes at Randwick on Saturday. The four-year-old entire is a $3.20 favorite, well ahead of his nearest rival in the betting, Dreamscape at $5.50.

The Gerald Ryan-trained Melito has been well backed early for the G2 Furious Stakes at Randwick for the three-year-old fillies. She is now at $4 well ahead of Deer Valley, a $7.50 chance, despite that filly having beaten her in the Silver Shadow.
