BOOKMAKERS KEEN TO LAY TYPHOON TRACY IN THE MAKYBE DIVA STAKES

LISTON Stakes winner, PREDATORY PRICER, has been best backed in early markets to repeat his effort in tomorrow’s $400,000 Maykbe Diva Stakes, 1600m, at Flemington.

Predatory Pricer today firmed from $5 to $3.80 in Fixed Odds betting on the Group 2 weight-for-age feature despite trainer Paul Murray claiming the one alley was not ideal.

“I didn't really want one but you can't knock it back,” Murray said. “Being a big horse I'd have liked five or six where he could be one out off them and start rolling when he wants to.

“Steven (King) is a good jockey. He knows the horse and the track very well, so I'll leave it up to him. There's not that much speed in it, only Typhoon Tracy, but it depends whether she goes forward or tries to take a sit.”

Typhoon Tracy, solidly supported when swamped by Predatory Pricer and Whobegotyou when resuming in the Liston at Caulfield on August 15, remains the early favorite for the Makybe Diva. She eased from $2.50 to $2.80 before late support today firming her price to $2.70.

That run was the first defeat that Typhoon Tracy had suffered in six starts but the effort did not disappoint trainer Peter Moody as the mare looked above herself in condition in the parade ring.

Nevertheless, Mark Read of IASbet.com believes Typhoon Tracy is under the odds despite the fact she could get an easy lead tomorrow. “The price is far too short for a mare that is yet to prove to us her worth at the top level,” he said.

Read rates the Mick Prince-trained Heart of Dreams the one to beat after finishing a luckless first-up fourth in the Liston. “This track and distance is the scene of his sensational Cadbury Guineas win. Expect him to race handy to the pace on Saturday. He is clearly my top pick,” Read said.

Other good moves in early betting on tomorrow’s Flemington card include:

AVENUE, from the Peter Moody stable, has been well backed to win the Girls Day Out Handicap and is now a $2.60 favorite. There has been good specking for Predatory Pricer’s stablemate, PHENOMENAL LASS, which is in to $8.

CARRARA has been the best backed in the Listed Henry Bucks Stakes for the three-year-olds and firmed today to $4.40 favoritism. There has been a good move at odds in this for the David Hayes-trained CHARTREUX, in from $26 to $15.

Bookmakers are keen to lay CATS WHISKER at the odds in the G2 Let’s Elope Stakes and she is out to $5. FIFTH AVENUE LADY has been specked today and is in to $8.

BLACK CAVIAR remains all the rage at $1.65 for the G2 Danehill Stakes with the Sydneysider MANHATTAN RAIN next best at $6.50.

SWIFT ALLIANCE, from the Gai Waterhouse stable, has been best backed to win the G3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes and has firmed to $4.50. There has been a good move at odds in this for RAHEEB, firming from $16 to $10 at his first start for the Mick Price stable.
