STEWARDS’ REPORTS for SATURDAY RACING at RANDWICK, CAULFIELD and EAGLE FARM:

 

RANDWICK

RACE 1: Adina Apartment Hotels Fernill Handicap 1600m:
Mr C Cavanagh, representing trainer Mr Liam Birchley, was advised that a fine of $50 would be applied to Mr Birchley for having failed to notify First Draft was gelded prior to this preparation. Careless was slow to begin. Aliyda shifted out shortly after the start and hampered Careless. First Draft and Cyclone bumped a short distance after the start, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. Approaching the first turn near the 1000m Khrysler, which had been overracing, had to be steadied away from the heels of First Draft and thereafter was allowed to stride forward to lead. Khrysler continued to overrace in the middle stages. Rounding the home turn, as Veuvelicious shifted out to improve around the heels of Khrysler, it made contact with Cyclone. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Cyclone, T Berry stated that, although the colt travelled well after going forward from its wide barrier, it did not concentrate throughout the race and also raced greenly in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of Cyclone did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr M Newnham stated that Cyclone had worked well leading into the event and a forward showing was expected. He added the colt will now be spelled.

RACE 2: McGrath Estate Agents South Pacific Classic 1400m:
Spy Decoder, which was difficult to load, was then slow to begin. A warning was placed on Spy Decoder in respect to its barrier manners. When questioned, S Baster, rider of Fast ‘N’ Rocking stated his mount did not appear to handle the slow track. A post-race veterinary examination of Fast ‘N’ Rocking did not reveal any abnormalities. When questioned, C Williams, rider of Longma, stated his mount missed the start slightly and, when it pushed it to go forward, Longma commenced to overrace and took some time to settle. He added that Longma raced greenly and was inclined to get on the wrong leg rounding the home turn and it was not until the final 100m that the colt concentrated and commenced to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination of Longma did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr M Newnham stated that Longma will now be dropped back in grade and undertook to report back on the progress of the colt.


RACE 3: Girvan Waugh Royal Randwick Stakes 1200m:
Clifton Red, which was slow to begin, was hampered shortly after when Amicus, which began awkwardly, shifted in. When questioned, C Reith, rider of Memorial, stated when the pace quickened from the 500m the filly could not improve and disappointed in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination of Memorial revealed the filly had a wound to the inside of the nearside gaskin and had aggravated an old speedy cut to the off hind fetlock. Trainer Mr P Snowden reported Memorial will now be spelled.

RACE 4: Arrowfield Royal Soveriegn Stakes 1200m:
Shamalia and Sidestep were slow to begin. Havana, which missed the start slightly, was hampered when Bounding, which began awkwardly, ran in. As Bounding (M Du Plessis) crossed to the lead at the 900m and steadied the pace, Never Can Tell had to be restrained off the heels of that filly. M Du Plessis was told to ensure he is two lengths clear when crossing. Near the 50m, when Havana improved into a narrow run between Never Can Tell and Dothraki, which shifted out, Never Can Tell had to be restrained when Havana was taken in by Dothraki (N Rawiller). N Rawiller was told to make more effort to keep his mounts straight. A post-race veterinary examination of Safeguard did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr P Snowden reported that Safeguard appeared a little field shy in today’s race and performed disappointingly.

RACE 5: Cellarbrations Queen of the Turf Stakes 1600m:
Gypsy Diamond stood flat-footed as the start was effected and was slow to begin. When questioned, J McDonald stated that Gypsy Diamond was again slow to begin today and then had to be pushed hard when it was reluctant to gallop in the first 50m. Bonaria overraced in the middle stages. When questioned, H Bowman, rider of Catkins, stated his mount became very awkward when it got close to the running rail at the 1000m. He added that he was not entirely happy with the mare’s action in the straight and felt it had raced quite flatly. A post-race veterinary examination of Catkins did not reveal any abnormalities. A post-race veterinary examination of Recite revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post-race recovery and the thumps. When questioned, C Schofield, rider of Solicit, stated that he was able to cross and lead without making too much use of the filly, but when he endeavoured to increase the tempo from the 600m Solicit commenced to struggle. He added that Solicit may not have backed up from its hard run over 2000m in the Storm Queen Stakes on a heavy track at Rosehill on 5 April 2014. A post-race veterinary examination of Solicit revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Co-trainer Mr M Ellerton could offer no excuse, other than Solicit had come to the end of its preparation. He added the filly will now return to Melbourne and be spelled. A post-race veterinary examination of Viadana revealed the mare to be displaying a poor post-race recovery.

RACE 6: Seven News Australian Oaks 2400m:
Miss Mossman, which had a loose upper temporary incisor tooth which was removed prior to the filly entering the barrier, was passed fit to start. Blue Eyes, Cuban Star and Lucia Valentina were slow to begin. C Schofield, rider of Casino Dancer, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in approaching the first turn, passing the winning post, resulting in Miss Selby being checked and Interspersed being crowded onto the running rail. C Schofield’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 27 April 2014 and to expire on Thursday, 15 May 2014, on which day he may ride. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account this was C Schofield eighth careless riding penalty in the preceding 12 months. When Role Model commenced to weaken very quickly on the home turn Missvonn shifted out off heels of that runner, taking Casino Dancer out onto Lucia Valentino. A short distance later Suavito had to come away from the heels of Rode Model. Rising Romance was inclined to shift ground under pressure in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of Miss Mossman revealed the filly to have speedy cuts to the off hind pastern. A post-race veterinary examination of Role Model revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Stable representative Mr M Newnham advised that Role Model will now be spelled.

RACE 7: Schweppes Sydney Cup 3200m:
Desert Jeuney raced keenly in the early stages. Gondokoro, which was pulling hard and being restrained off the heels of Who Shot Thebarman, shifted out passing the 1100m, hampered Voleuse De Coeur, taking that runner wider on the track. At the 700m Let’s Make Adeal struck the heels of The Offer and blundered. Macedonian laid in and struck the running rail at the 600m. Desert Jeuney laid out making the turn at the 600m and had to be directed away from the heels of Brigantin. Near the 500m Opinion shifted out to improve around Tremec, which was commencing to give ground quickly, and in doing so hampered Brigantin. Rounding the home turn, as The Offer Commenced to make ground around Brigantin, Brigantin shifted out, which resulted in The Offer crowding Like A Carousel, which was commencing to weaken. When questioned concerning the performance of Who Shot Thebarman, J McDonald stated he had to make some use of his mount in the early stages to dross from his barrier, but Who Shot Thebarman was a beaten horse at the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination of Who Shot Thebarman did not reveal any abnormalities. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Hippopus, J Cassidy stated his mount did not run out the 3200m journey in the going and, in his view, had not backed up from hard racing runs. A post-race veterinary examination of Hippopus revealed the gelding had lost its near hind plate and sustained a laceration to the near hind pastern. Trainer’s representative Mr M Newnham undertook to report back on the immediate racing plans for Hippopus.

RACE 8: Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2000m:
It’s A Dundeel, which slipped over in the tie-up stalls, sustained lacerations to the near hind fetlock and near hind pastern. After being inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer, It’s A Dundeel was passed Le Roi, Dear Demi and Green Moon were slow to begin. Approaching the 1600m Le Roi had to be steadied when tightened for room by Silent Achiever (N Rawiller), which shifted in. Whilst the Stewards accepted that, as the incident developed, N Rawiller was unable to relieve the tightening, as My Kingdom Of Fife improved around it, he was nevertheless told that in similar circumstances he must ensure that he is fully clear before shifting ground. Boban overraced in the middle stages. Boban bled for the first time. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised Boban would incur the automatic three month bar.

RACE 9: Drummond Golf Sapphire Stakes 1200m:
As the start was effected, the nearside gate of Belle De Coeur rebounded and struck the mare on jumping. Full Of Spirit was slow to begin. At the 900m Plucky Belle had to be restrained off the heels of Belle De Coeur. At the 700m Lilliburlero, which was overracing badly, had to be checked when tightened for room between Shahad, which was taken out by Dystopia and Recoinage (J Collett), which shifted in. J Collett was told to exercise more care. Near the 300m Recoinage, after initially being brushed by Shahad, was further contacted by Peron, which laid in under pressure. Plucky Belle had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight. Trainer Mr J Thompson was fined $200 under AR140(c) for failing to report Peron had had a wind operation. When questioned regarding the performance of Peron, J Cassidy stated that the mare was obliged to cover ground in the run and was never fully comfortable in the ground. A post-race veterinary examination of Peron revealed the mare to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr J Thompson stated that Peron went into the event without a trial and would take benefit from the run. He undertook to report if there was anything amiss with Peron subsequent to the race. A post-race veterinary examination of Dystopia did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller reported Dystopia would be retired.

CAULFIELD

Race 1 – JACK ELLIOTT HANDICAP - 1100 metres: 

After slipping in the pre-parade area, Smart Magician underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race.

The start of the race was delayed due to Barwon being difficult to load and trainer Mr R Hickmott was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record.

Barwon was slow to begin.

Ms Mazetti jumped away awkwardly and shifted in abruptly resulting in Randarock and Stick Seeker being tightened for room and having to be checked.

In the middle stages Stick Seeker had a tendency to race greenly.

Rich Widow raced wide without cover.

On straightening Inauguration had to be steadied off the heels of Inkulu which when racing greenly shifted in slightly.

Randarock was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight and as a result proved difficult for M Walker to ride the colt out in his normal manner. 

In the straight Inkulu, which was racing greenly, shifted in abruptly near the 50m resulting in its rider, D Dunn, having to stop riding and straighten his mount.

L Nolen, rider of Choctaw Ridge which performed below market expectations, explained that the filly was a little slow to begin and would be better for the experience, this having been its first start.  A subsequent veterinary examination of Choctaw Ridge revealed no abnormalities.

Race 2 – ERNEST HILLIER CHOCOLATES HANDICAP - 1800 metres: 

Synthetic (NZ) knuckled on jumping away.

Tiny’s Legacy over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Megamind jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and hampered Café Scientific resulting in Café Scientific having to be checked.

Near the 1700m Tiny’s Legacy shifted out and brushed Happy As Hell resulting in Tiny’s Legacy becoming unbalanced.

Near the 1000m Megamind commenced to over-race and then had to be checked off the heels of Tiny’s Legacy.

Megamind hung in rounding the home turn and in the straight.

Rounding the home turn and until near the 300m Synthetic (NZ) was held up and unable to obtain a clear run.

Also rounding the home turn and until near the 200m, Navajo Run (NZ) was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.

A veterinary examination was conducted on Storm Approach, which weakened out of the race over the concluding stages, and this revealed no abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of Synthetic (NZ) failed to reveal any abnormalities.

J Winks reported Megamind was not entirely comfortable on the track conditions today.

D Lane reported Devil Woman raced flat and may have come to the end of its preparation.  Trainer Mr C Alderson stated he expected the horse to be closer however was disappointed with the run and he’ll see how Devil Woman pulls up from the run before assessing his options with the filly.

Race 3 – BILL COLLINS HANDICAP - 1400 metres: 

The start was delayed by two minutes due to Blue Ribbon being difficult to load and trainer Mr C Little was advised further approval is required at a jump out prior to racing again.

Bec Said No Credit was slow to begin.

Counted (NZ) jumped away awkwardly.

Terpsichore raced wide without cover.

Co-trainer Mr S Zahra was questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of Twilighting today, and also the tactics adopted on that mare when leading today.  Mr Zahra explained that Twilighting is a natural on-speed horse and had only got back in its most recent starts due to wide barrier draws and with the addition of blinkers today there were no specific instructions to lead, and in his view the mare was able to do so of its own accord when unchallenged in the early stages.  He also added that Twilighting had become aggressive when worked during the week in blinkers.

A post race veterinary examination of Red Fez (unplaced favourite) failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis.

M Payne (Catered) reported that she was unable to pull her whip as it became entangled in her reins.

Apprentice J Kah (Terpsichore) reported that her mount never travelled at any stage during the event.

C Symons (Aliyana (NZ)) reported that his mount never travelled and wasn’t comfortable on today’s track conditions.

Race 4 – GEOFF MURPHY HANDICAP - 1400 metres: 

The start of the race was delayed when Za Moulin Rouge underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race.

The start of the race was further delayed when Leia proved difficult to load and trainer Mr L Corstens was advised that the filly must gain further approval at a jump out before racing again.

Near the 1000m It’s A Thrilla commenced to over-race and then had to be checked off the heels of Hot Mama.  Marli Magic, which was following, had to be checked as a consequence.

Hot Mama raced wide without cover.

Over the concluding stages Griante shifted out under pressure.

D Yendall (It’s A Thrilla) was fined $200 for using his whip six times in a forehand manner prior to the 100m, which is one time more than permissible.

C Symons (Pearly Whites) was of the view that the filly didn’t handle today’s track conditions.

K Mallyon (New York Rain) reported that her mount made an abnormal respiratory noise and subsequently underwent a veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.

D Yendall couldn’t offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of It’s A Thrilla.  A post race veterinary examination of It’s A Thrilla failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 5 – BERT BRYANT HANDICAP - 1200 metres: 

B Rawiller (Consorting) was fined $200 under the provisions of AR175(p) for failing to comply with the requirement of the Stewards to be in the mounting yard in a timely manner prior to the race.

The Bowler and Washington Square both raced wide without cover.

D Lane (Hard Stride) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the careless riding being approaching the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out whilst riding it along when insufficiently clear of Boer, which shifted out and bumped Excellent Flight, which in turn was taken out into the rightful running of Golfing resulting in Golfing clipping the heels of Excellent Flight and dislodging V Duric.  D Lane had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight April 22 and to expire at midnight May 16, a total of twenty-four race meetings (six metropolitan, eighteen provincial).  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account D Lane’s guilty plea, the racing manners of Golfing and that the incident was in the high range and a rider fell.

As a result of this incident a number of runners suffered interference when attempting to avoid the riderless horse, the main sufferers being Search Squad (NZ), Alpha Beat and Consorting, all which had to be checked.

For some distance inside the 300m Search Squad (NZ) was held up before gaining clear running inside the final 100m.

Approaching the 150m Boer had to be eased when tightened for room between Excellent Flight, which shifted in slightly, and Jessy Belle which shifted out slightly.

Race 6 – RACE-TECH VICTORIA HANDICAP (Group 3) - 1400 metres: 

Reparations was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 9.30am and trainer Mr A Freedman will submit a veterinary certificate in respect of it.

Natuzzi (NZ) jumped away awkwardly and knuckled.

In the early stages Natuzzi (NZ) had a tendency to over-race.

Chile Express (NZ) got its head up when over-racing in the middle stages.

Bianmick raced wide without cover.

Near the 200m when laying in, Elwick Jack shifted in resulting in Garud (IRE), which was racing to that gelding’s inside, having to be steadied.

Approaching the 100m Chile Express (NZ), which was making ground, had to be checked off the heels of the weakening Adamantium (NZ).

Approaching the 100m Mr O’Ceirin (NZ) was disappointed for a run between Natuzzi (NZ) and Smokin’ Joey.

Near the 50m Sistine Demon, the eventual winner, brushed the running rail and became unbalanced.

D Dunn reported that Mecir was not suited by today’s track conditions.

D Lane (London Stripe (IRE)) stated that from the wide barrier he was obliged to go further back than he would have liked to gain some cover and avoid covering excessive ground.

Race 7 – LE PINE FUNERALS EASTER CUP (Group 3) - 2000 metres: 

Prior to today’s meeting, trainer Mr P Gelagotis advised that both Mourinho and Hvasstan would be ridden further back in the field today from their wide gates.  Mourinho and Hvasstan were both ridden towards the rear of the field.

The explanation tendered by M Walker for accepting a ride on Moudre, when found to be overweight and subsequently had to be replaced, was accepted.

Our Voodoo Prince (GB) was slow to begin.

Mourinho was marginally slow to begin.

Mourayan (IRE) raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages.

In the middle stages Banca Mo over-raced.

Passing the 600m Tanby shifted in and brushed Zabeelionaire (NZ) resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

Escado was held up rounding the home turn and for a major part of the straight and only got clear over the final 50m of the race.

In the early part of the straight Akzar (IRE) had difficulty in obtaining clear running until inside the 200m.

S Arnold, ride of Mourayan (IRE) which performed poorly, could offer no explanation for the poor performance.  S Arnold added that Mourayan (IRE) was the first horse beaten.  A post race veterinary examination of Mourayan (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.

After passing the 100m Whisper Downs was checked when tightened for room between Hvasstan and Stipulate (GB), which continued to shift out after initially being taken out by Saint Or Sinner (NZ).  In all the circumstances no direct action was taken against D Moor (Stipulate (GB)) due to Saint Or Sinner contributing to the interference, nonetheless he was advised to exercise more care when in similar circumstances.

Race 8 – NOEL RUNDLE HANDICAP - 1100 metres: 

Stewards acceded to a request from trainer Mr R Griffiths to withdraw It Is Written from this event due to the downgrade of the track.  It Is Written was subsequently a late withdrawal at 3.15pm.  Betting deductions: 10 cents in the dollar for double bets.

Prior to the meeting connections advised that Elite Elle would be ridden further back than at its most recent starts.  Elite Elle was ridden behind the leaders.

The start of the race was delayed when California Wish proved difficult to load and trainer Mr J Welsh was advised that a warning will be placed on the mare as due to a misunderstanding a blindfold was used on the horse which was not the case and Mr Welsh undertook to make a gear change on California Wish.

Sumakaray was slow to begin.

Passing the 800m Elite Elle shifted in and tightened the running of Sumakaray, which got unbalanced and brushed the running rail.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Morant was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Alpha Proxima was unable to improve its position when held up for clear running until approaching the 200m.

A post race veterinary examination of Sumakaray failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

EAGLE FARM

Race 1: BRC Has The Winning Edge F&M H'cap - 1000m

LA TIKKA ROSA (G. Colless), DIAMOND TRAIL (M. Hellyer) and JACQUETTA (R. McMahon) were slow to begin.

LA TIKKA ROSA was held up for clear running until near the 100m.

Approaching the 200m, LIGHTFEET LADY (K. Matheson) was tightened for room between ALLTHERIGHTMOVES (M. McGuren) and MISSING PAGE (M. Cahill), which shifted in under pressure.

MISSING PAGE (M. Cahill) and BEACH BABE (T. Wolfgram) raced wide for the majority of the race.

A post race veterinary examination of MISSING PAGE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 2: Winning Edge Merchandise Class 6 Plate - 2200m

PLATINUM JACK (C. Munce) and HARBOR SPRINGS (T. Bell) were slow to begin.

LEE HO FOOK (R. Wiggins) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with TIPS 'N' TALES (P. Schmidt).

When the pace steadied near the 1800m, LEE HO FOOK and PLATINUM JACK commenced to pull hard.

Passing the 1600m, C. Munce allowed PLATINUM JACK to stride forward and take up a position near the lead near the 1400m.

After leaving the 200m, PLATINUM JACK shifted out under pressure and hampered ANGUSROY (A. Holt).

ALBIZIA (M. McGuren) raced wide throughout.

When questioned, R. Ride reported that MISS KARDASHIAN pulled hard early and may have been galloped on behind near the 1600m, and as a result of that her mount then commenced to overrace and she was unable to restrain the mare for some distance. A post race veterinary examination of MISS KARDASHIAN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 3: Winning Edge Trophies Members' H'cap - 1600m

Shortly after the start, CABALLO RAPIDO (M. Cahill) was tightened for room between PRETTY PINS (R. Wiggins) and LADY ECHELON (T. Bell), which shifted out.

GREY ASSIGNMENT (L. Cassidy) overraced from the 1400m to the 1200m.

R. Ride reported that KISS ME DEADLY travelled well in running but when placed under pressure in the straight failed to run on as expected.

Trainer P. Jenkins reported MATABRAHMA would now be sent for a spell.


Race 4: Winningedge.net.au 2yo H'cap - 1000m

The start was delayed when SAGATONA had to be resaddled at the barriers.

SO IMPATIENT (C. Munce), RUNWAY ANGEL (R. Wiggins) and SAGATONA (T. Wolfgram) were slow to begin.

ELITIST (K. Matheson) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight and near the 200m, RUNWAY ANGEL, which was racing to its inside, had to be steadied.

SARISARA (T. Bell), OUTBACK SAGA (E. Wilkinson) and GRAPEVINE (D. Browne) raced wide for the majority of the race.

T. Bell, ride of SARISARA, was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.





Race 5: You've Got The Winning Edge 3yo Plate - 1000m

WHISKEY ALLROUND (B. El-Issa) reared at the start and lost ground.

SNITZEL'S JEWEL (L. Cassidy) and BLACKBOARD SPECIAL (M. Cahill) bumped shortly after the start.

T. Harrison reported that SMOKE HAZARD commenced to hang out shortly after the start and continued to do so for the remainder of the race. Trainer S. Watters was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.

Near the 350m, BLACKBOARD SPECIAL laid in behind the heels of TISANI TOMSO (B. Stewart) and then shifted out near the 250m and made contact with FLYING RIDDLE (P. Schmidt).

WALKIN' TALL (R. McMahon) laid in under pressure in the straight.

FLYING RIDDLE raced wide throughout.

D. Browne reported at scale that GOOD JOB BRO jumped away awkwardly, resulting in him making contact with the upright and as a result he was not able to fully test his mount during the race. D Browne was examined by the club's doctor following the race and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.

B. El-Issa reported that after beginning awkwardly, WHISKEY ALLROUND never travelled well throughout.


Race 6: Winning Edge Promotional Gear Princess Stakes - 1600m

FAIRYTALE BELLE (T. Bell) reared at the start and lost ground.

After travelling 100m, BEATNIKS (L. Cassidy) had to be steadied from the heels of TORNADO MISS (R. McMahon), which was taken in by SOME CALL HER WILD (B. Stewart).

Passing the 1200m, TIRARRI (E. Wilkinson) commenced to pull hard and had to be restrained from the heels of LITTLE BIT DITSY (M. Cahill).

At the same stage, SATIRICAL LASS (J. Byrne) pulled hard at the heels of TORNADO MISS.

Approaching the 1000m, BEATNIKS shifted out and away from the heels of BEST YET TO COME (J. Taylor), taking PERFORMIA (B. El-Issa) wider.

Passing the 800m, QUEEN OF THE LOCHS (T. Harrison) brushed the rail and shifted out, inconveniencing TORNADO MISS. SATIRICAL LASS, which was following, shifted out abruptly, making contact with PERFORMIA.


G. Colless reported that TINTO was reluctant to improve inside other runners rounding the home turn and he advised connections to experiment with blinkers.

Near the 500m, TORNADO MISS shifted out and brushed SATIRICAL LASS.

SOME CALL HER WILD was held up from the 400m until inside the 200m.

SISTER SOUSS (R. Wiggins) was held up in the early stages of the straight.

LITTLE BIT DITSY shifted in under pressure from the 300m and near the 200m SEA RED (D. Browne) had to be steadied away from the heels of LITTLE BIT DITSY.


Race 7: Winning Edge Presentations Hinkler H'cap - 1200m

As G. Colless was to be overweight, J. Byrne was substituted as the rider of CUDDLESOME. G. Colless was fined $200.

CHOICE BRO (R. McMahon), MISHANI WARRIOR (B. Stewart) and EASY RUNNING (J. Morris) were slow to begin.

R. Wiggins, rider of GUNDY SON, accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 200m.

B. Stewart could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of MISHANI WARRIOR. A post race veterinary examination of MISHANI WARRIOR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.


Race 8: Winnng Edge Signature Class 6 H'cap - 1400m

Connections advised that PROOF OF LIFE would be ridden back in the field today. PROOF OF LIFE was subsequently ridden back in the field. Trainer T. Gollan was fined $200 for failing to advise stewards earlier than he did on this occasion.

CUM DIVIDEND (K. Matheson) blundered on jumping away.

Shortly after the start, CUM DIVIDEND and ALDINI (T. Bell) were tightened for room when DOUGHTY (M. Cahill) shifted out.

Near the 1300m, SHOW OF STRENGTH (R. Wiggins) made contact with the hind quarters of BINGO BOBBY (M. McGuren) when taken in by KENTUCKY WOMAN (C. Munce), which in turn was taken in by MORE LEVERAGE (B. El-Issa). Stewards severely reprimanded B. El-Issa, rider of MORE LEVERAGE, and advised him to be fully clear in future when shifting ground.

Approaching the 800m, DOUGHTY, which was pulling hard, had to be steadied away from the heels of MORE LEVERAGE, which shifted in.

Passing the 700m, BINGO BOBBY had to be steadied from the heels of DOUGHTY and in doing so shifted out and made contact with KENTUCKY WOMAN. CAELLUM (S. Galloway), which was following, then shifted out.

Inside the 200m, ALDINI (T. Bell) was tightened for room between KENTUCKY WOMAN, which was tiring, and BUAKAW (T. Wolfgram), which shifted in.

Approaching the 100m, CAELLUM shifted away from CUM DIVIDEND and made contact with
HEART OF MANY, which in turn brushed KENTUCKY WOMAN.

Close to the finish line, VOODOO BLUE MAGIC (A. Allen) had to be steadied from the heels of BUSHY (E. Wilkinson), which shifted in.

L. Cassidy reported that HEART OF MANY raced ungenerously throughout the race. A post race veterinary examination of HEART OF MANY revealed the horse to be coughing. Trainer B. Baldwin undertook to report to stewards if anything was amiss with the gelding in the days following the event.
