PATINACK FARM CAMERON HANNDICAP CLASH LIKELY FOR DUO

TWO of Newcastle's top sprinters Looking Fur Lang and Absolutelyfabulous - opponents in a Broadmeadow barrier trial today (Friday, August 7) - may clash again in the Patinack Farm Cameron Handicap at the same track on September 16.

The $150,000 Cameron will be run over 1300m on the first day of the spring carnival and carries Group 3 status.

Both six-year-olds warmed up for spring campaigns with impressive performances in today's 800m trial on the No 2 grass, and undoubtedly will derive further improvement from the hitouts.

John Curtis from the Newcastle Jockey Club reports that Looking Fur Lang (Darryl McLellan) won the trial from Absolutelyfabulous (Andrew Gibbons) in 49 seconds (hand timed), but neither was pushed out.

After the trial, their respective trainers Alan Scorse and Kris Lees outlined immediate plans for the pair.

Provided the track is dry, Looking Fur Lang will resume at Rosehill Gardens next Saturday in a Rating 86 Handicap (1100m).

"There's no point running him if the track's wet; he doesn't stretch out at all," Scorse said."At this stage, the Cameron is definitely on our agenda."

Looking Fur Lang - winner of the greys race at last year's Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington - hasn't appeared since failing over 1200m at Rosehill under 59kg on March 28.

He has won seven of his 21 starts and appears set for a fruitful spring campaign.

So too does class mare Absolutelyfabulous, already the earner of more than $750,000 in stakemoney. She is scheduled to resume in the Listed Sheraco Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 29.

"It looks as though she has come up well," Lees said after the trial."Now that the Cameron has come back to 1300m, there's every chance we'll head toward that race."

Absolutelyfabulous, though the winner of only four races (with 12 placings) from 34 starts, was a brave second to Forensics in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at last year's Melbourne Cup carnival.

She hasn't started since finishing down the course in the Emancipation Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 25.

Another proven Newcastle sprinter Biscayne Bay also won an 800m trial today in 48.5 seconds.
