MAIR BLASTS PAY DEMANDS OF THE STRAIGHT & ORDERS ‘UNSUBCRIBE ME’!

OUR Sydney contributor PETER MAIR might not be everybody’s cup of tea but LGHR, and many others, believe what he has to say most times makes a lot of sense.

Such is his latest stand against the website THE STRAIGHT, which has gained a mixed reception since it went subscriber-only. MAIR shoots from the hip and hasn’t missed them in his latest stinging attack.

Here is a copy of what he sent their Editor:

Bren — et al,

Unable to find an option on the web-site to ‘unsubscribe’  — please do so, ‘unsubscribe me’.

The business model of The Straight is beyond my understanding —  the recent surge in demands to ‘pay up’, to read click-bait stories, suggests a making-money, business-model  has not met your hopes.

Put sharply, those registered to ‘get emails’, scrolling to open a story, are left facing a ‘pay up’ paywall.

………….. this demand to ‘pay up’ is not consistent with the ‘bait’ :

EDITOR’S NOTE: LGHR is currently investigating claims that some websites are receiving annual grants from major race clubs and control bodies. We can assure you that LGHR is not one of them and would not want to be one of them. It sounds too much like ‘cash for comment’ for our liking – bit like paying millions each year for form guides in certain dailies and getting positive coverage in return.
