IT’S hard to believe that the LETSGOHORSERACING website was launched almost 20 years ago – at times it seems like only yesterday but others more like an eternity.
We’ve had our highs and lows, made friends and lost them, survived legal actions to try and close us down that have cost us plenty financially and psychologically.
Was it worth it? Well we’re still here when there was pressure at times to close our site down but fortunately our health continues to allow us to continue unlike the gentleman who pioneered racing websites in Phil Purser who LGHR will always be thankful for his advice, support and guidance.
In case you thought this was the beginning of the end for LGHR and that we had decided in these demanding and competitive times to close the site down, it is exactly the opposite. We are moving forward and with our readership increasing by the week the site we first built and then upgraded can no longer cope.
A new advanced and hopefully even more popular LGHR website will soon be launched. Our main goal will always be the same: To provide constructive criticism that the mainstream racing media refuses to do because of ‘cash for comment’ through form guides and broadcast coverage. We will always provide a platform for stakeholders, punters and the racing public to ‘have their say’ providing they are not defamatory or mischievous and we will allow some to remain ‘anonymous’ if they fear their criticism of officialdom will prejudice what they do.
LGHR RELIES ON FUNDING FROM OUR LATE MAIL TO RUN THE WEBSITE
UNLIKE
most of our rivals – especially the big name media racing sites – we will never charge for people to view our content. That means we have to raise money elsewhere to provide a first class service.
That is why we run the LGHR LATE MAIL – a tipping service for leisure punters that costs far less than the so-called pros but delivers not just as good but at times much better results. This helps fund the maintenance and delivery of LGHR provided by one of the best in the business David Drinkall of GOODFUNNYSMART – a Brisbane-based host with plenty of high quality clients.
Our colleague Archie Butterfly has a subscriber service, peterprofit.com, but his is a website with a difference, where he shoots from the hip and has a massive harness racing audience. We are a great fan.
The same cannot be said of the Johnny-come-lately websites like The Straight which now requires a subscription. Many of these newcomers receive financial support from racing organisations like control bodies, clubs and studs which arguably tests their independence.
LGHR once accepted advertisements from corporate bookies but they then changed this from cash to ‘free bets’. We refused to accept this and would like to see a National Tote in Australia to combat some of these ‘parasites’.
Look forward to some new features and additional columnists (we could not have been luckier in attracting the popular Matt Nicholls to provide a weekly contribution) when the newlook LGHR is up and running in the coming weeks.
Our readership has gone through the roof, more so in recent years and continues to grow. That will only continue with your support. To those who like it and have a punt, please help us offset the mounting costs through a subscription to the LGHR Late Mail. We have some ‘specials’ for carnivals throughout the year that cost only $100.
