ANOTHER recent contribution from PETER MAIR whilst LGHR was having a week off reads:
‘BEING in France (on holidays), I get to read tomorrow’s SMH at 5 pm while most in Sydney are asleep. This morning’s edition has a few stories that are gambling-related and racing -related. These stories may unsettle power brokers managing racing and gambling franchises in Australia — especially if they newly portend a more open attitude to reporting ‘racing industry matters’.
Put differently, it is generally not a good idea to poke-the-bear or disturb a sleeping dog — a sentiment likely to be shared by those likely to join the ranks of some famous SMH copy-boys with names like Obeid, Rivkin et al. Why would you do it?’
