STRADBROKE WINNER SET FOR STRONG COMEBACK SHOWING

STRADBROKE Handicap winner, Black Piranha, has been solidly backed to score a comeback win in tomorrow’s (Wednesday) $150,000 Group 3 Patinack Farm Cameron Handicap at Newcastle.

Black Piranha has firmed from $3.20 to $3 with Mark Read’s IASbet.com and looks certain to start a solid favorite ahead of Ahdashim ($4.50) with some support for Absolutelyfabulous ($7.50 to $6).

Trainer Con Karakatsanis will use the Cameron as a springboard to a Cox Plate start for Black Piranha. The winner of almost $1.7 million in stakes has not started since winning the G1 Stradbroke Handicap, 1400m, at Eagle Farm on June 6.

There has been good support at odds in the Cameron for the Gai Waterhouse-trained Rockwood, which has firmed from $17 to $14. Blinkers have been added for his comeback run.

Rockwood has trialed twice finishing second at Wyong then fourth at Warwick Farm. He has been working well in blinkers in recent weeks.

The Waterhouse stable will run Viking Legend in the Group 3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle tomorrow. He is an $11 chance behind the well backed favorite Hus Der Lieften, which has firmed from $2.80 to $2.60 favoritism and is looking to continue the great run being enjoyed by the Gerald Ryan stable.
