VICTORIAN racing's cult hero Apache Cat has been retired after suffering a leg fracture whilst competing in the $1.8m International Sprint in Hong Kong on Sunday.
Trainer Greg Eurell made the announcement today after scans revealed the seven-year-old gelding had a small fracture at the base of a sesamoid bone.

HALL of Fame trainer, Jack Denham, who guided Might And Power to wins in the 1997 Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, died in a Sydney hospital today (Monday).
Denham, whose training career spanned six decades, was still active until a recent illness forced him to be hospitalized. He was 85.
THE Melbourne Racing Club will recognise and honor the achievements of Caulfield trainers at its Christmas mid-week race meeting at Caulfield on Wednesday, December 16.
The Club will name five races on the programme after the top five best performed Caulfield-based trainers for the 2008/2009 racing season. The remaining two races will honour the recently retired trainer, Jim Moloney and veteran horseman, Kel Chapman.
THE Hong Kong International Race Day will be featured this Sunday at Moonee Valley Racing Club as a twilight meeting to coincide with the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races.
Moonee Valley will feature three $100,000 races in an eight race card including the Listed Sportingbet St Albans Stakes for two year olds over 1000 metres. Between MVRC races, live racing from Hong Kong will showcase the best thoroughbreds from around the world.

NEW RULES FOR BEFORE UN-RACED HORSES CAN COMPETE IN VICTORIA
RACING Victoria Limited (RVL) has today announced changes to its procedures regarding the approval of un-raced horses to compete in races, following a detailed review of current procedures, including consultation with the Australian Trainers’ Association (ATA).
Effective from 1 January, 2010, every un-raced horse will have to be deemed as suitable for racing by RVL stewards before it is allowed to debut on Victorian tracks.

THE Chief Executive of the Victoria Racing Club, Mr. Dale Monteith, today announced a
significant VRC race programming initiative in relation to the Club’s feature fillies’ race
of the autumn, the Kewney Stakes.
Traditionally a 1600 metres race for 3YO fillies at Set Weights on Flemington’s “Super Saturday” in March, (this year run for $300,000), the race will undergo a distance and prizemoney change.

UNIQUE MILESTONE FOR DIANNE AND SALLY WYNNE AT SALE RACES
A UNIQUE milestone was achieved at Sale this afternoon (Wednesday) when veteran galloper Sensational Swing lined up for his 100th start and won for the mother-daughter team of Dianne and Sally Wynne.
Remarkably, the 10-year-old gelding has been prepared throughout his entire career by Cranbourne trainer Dianne Wynne and ridden at every start by her daughter Sally Wynne. They were given a fitting reception by the Sale crowd.

CRITICS DECLARE IT A ‘FORGETTABLE DAY’ FOR SYDNEY RACING
CHIEF steward Ray Murrihy described as ‘horrendous’ the severe interference that marred the Listed Festival Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday and saw two top jockeys suspended.
Hugh Bowman (Walking or Dancing) and Glen Colless (Ahdashim) were outed over the early trouble which saw Rockwood, Theophorus, Vintedge and Malcolm all severely checked.

NATHAN ROSE MOUNTS WILL BE THE OMEN TIPS ON A BIG CHARITY DAY
PROMISING apprentice Nathan Rose is set for a busy day at Caulfield on Saturday as he is booked to take a ride in seven of the eight races on a day where the rose is the symbolic emblem of the Melbourne Racing Club’s major partner - Cystic Fibrosis Victoria.
The rose, the ancient symbol of love, has been the symbol of Cystic Fibrosis around the world since 1965. "65 Roses" is what some children with Cystic Fibrosis call their disease because the words are much easier for them to pronounce.

RVL EXECUTIVE TO HEAR A PROPOSAL REGARDING JUMPS RACING
RACING Victoria Limited (RVL) chairman, Michael Duffy, told today’s annual general meeting that discussions would soon take place that could see a resolution to the jumps racing controversy.
Duffy said the Board had resolved this morning that the RVL Executive would meet with Member Shareholders’ representative, Mike Symons, to discuss a proposal regarding jumps racing as soon as possible.
