IN his popular column, ‘SILKS & SADDLES,’ published in the NORTH QUEENSLAND REGISTER, respected racing writer TERRY BUTTS reports that there is still no definite starting date for the track reconstruction in Townsville where the Turf Club does not seem to get the same treatment from the Government or RQ that Eagle Farm and Toowoomba received.

Butts also reports on buck-passing that has occurred over who was to blame for the track limit on the 1000m starts at the Ooralea meeting in Mackay last week which has angered stakeholders.

Butts also reports on the conclusion of a long-running legal battle between warring parties in the Townsville racing industry and how a headline about the outcome was so misleading it could lead to a libel action.

Butts also reveals how the Member for Burdekin, Rosemary Menkens, is far from impressed after learning she was misinformed on the allocation to the Townsville Turf Club by All Codes Chairman.

The column also contains an alarming report and photographs of giant divots in the Cluden track which is desperately in need of replacement and hopefully that work will begin shortly.
