FAILURE IN IRISH ST LEGER SEES MARE EASED TO $21 FOR THE CUP

IRISH mare Profound Beauty has drifted from Melbourne Cup favoritism to a $21 chance in early markets following her distant fourth in the Irish St Leger at the weekend.

The Dermot Weld-trained Profound Beauty finished over 23 lengths from the winner Alandi on a heavy track at The Curragh.

The new equal favorites for the Melbourne Cup with Mark Read’s IASbet.com are Vigor and C’est La Guerre at $9 with the Lee Freedman-trained Speed Gifted at $13, Efficient at $15, Master O’Reilly and Viewed at $17 and Precedence, Roman Emperor and Profound Beauty on the $21 line.

Profound Beauty, which ran fifth in last year’s Melbourne Cup, will still head to Australia with Weld conceding he had thought twice about running her in the Irish St Leger after heavy rain fell at The Curragh.

Whobegotyou could firm even shorter than his current $3.50 quote in early Cox Plate markets following confirmation that Mic Mac is an unlikely starter and will target the Manikato Stakes instead.

Mic Mac remains in Cox Plate betting as second favorite at $11, ahead of Jolie’s Shinju at $12 and El Segundo at $13.
