MOTHER NOT DAUGHTER CAPTURES THE MEDIA SPOTLIGHT IN MELBOURNE

IT was Sara Cumani, not high profile daughter Francesca, who captured the attention of an eager media throng as Cima De Triomphe rounded off his preparation for Saturday’s $2.5m BMW Caulfield Cup in miserable conditions at Sandown on Thursday morning.

After one of his two strong canters for the morning, Cima De Triomphe appeared to shy at a
photographer standing near the running rail and had Sara using her considerable riding skills to stay in
the saddle.

“He’s feeling full of himself at the moment which is always a good sign at this stage,” she said later.

Cima De Triomphe completed his work in the company of a lead horse ridden by Francesca without
any more distractions and the Cumani camp is very happy going into Saturday’s 2400m handicap.

Stablemate Basaltico worked alone in preparation for his run in the Geelong Cup next Wednesday.
Godolphin’s Kirklees, who is now shading Cima De Triomphe for favouritism in the Caulfield Cup,
worked with stablemate Crime Scene.

The pair jogged 1200m before cantering from the 1600m mark to the finishing post, but they were not
out to make time on a track that was rated slow.

Godolphin’s travelling foreman Tommy Strang said Crime Scene would have a hit out on Saturday
morning in preparation for his Aussie debut alongside Basaltico in the Geelong Cup.

In other news from Sandown, Sydney-based trainer Chris Waller was on hand to see his new stable acquisition, the former Sir Michael Stoute-trained Warringah, gallop for the first time and said he was looking forward to having his first runner in the Emirates Melbourne Cup on 3 November.

“It’s very exciting. When we bought him, the idea was to set him for the BMW and the Sydney Cup next year but he did everything right during his quarantine in England and since he arrived here and he’s earned his chance in the Melbourne Cup,” Waller explained.

“He’s a lovely big horse, a good mover and I can’t wait for him to have a serious gallop,” Waller said.

For the second morning in a row, Bankable stunned onlookers with a solid gallop over a full circuit on
the course proper which is more than any of the international visitors have done since they arrived.

Bankable, a travelling companion for Melbourne Cup contender Mourilyan, will line up in the Group 1 $750,000 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 31.

Their trainer, South African Herman Brown, was on hand to watch the pair work after arriving in
Melbourne yesterday, with Mourilyan enjoying a far more leisurely workout than his stablemate.
