STEWARDS PUT SADLER - WILLIAMS RUNNERS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

RACING Victoria Limited (RVL) stewards today conducted veterinary examinations on three horses at the Macedon stables of trainer John Sadler.

The stable’s three Emirates Melbourne Cup entrants C’est La Guerre, Zipping and Efficient were inspected by three veterinarians, two from Racing Victoria Limited (RVL), Dr Paul O’Callaghan and Dr Geoff Hazard, as well as equine specialist Dr Chris Whitton from Melbourne University.

The veterinarians reported the following;
C’est La Guerre: The horse has endured back pain after an unplaced run in the BMW Caulfield Cup, but has been passed suitable for racing.
Zipping: Passed suitable for racing.
Efficient: The stable are managing an old injury in the horse’s off foreleg which has been present
for the past 12-18 months. Efficient has raced with success with the condition, including a last start
win in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.

The stable’s veterinary staff will monitor Efficient in the lead up to Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup and a
further examination by RVL veterinarians will take place prior to Efficient starting in the Cup.

The stable reassured the stewards that they won’t accept for the Melbourne Cup if the veterinary
advice indicates that it is not in the best interests of the horse to compete.

In other news, David Hayes, trainer of Changingoftheguard, today explained to RVL stewards that the entire had not missed any work since his hoof problem some 10 days ago and in his opinion has done more work than any horse at the Sandown quarantine

He added that Changingoftheguard has recently received chiropractic treatment, as have a majority
of his horses at Flemington, and that it is the normal routine for the stable.
