THE Victoria Racing Club can confirm that it has evidence to suggest that the Flemington Racecourse stables precinct was the subject of unauthorised entry on the afternoon of 26th January 2010.

“Unauthorised entry into any premises at, or surrounding, the racecourse is a very serious matter and one which the VRC will investigate in full with the assistance of police and other parties as required,” said VRC Chief Executive Dale Monteith.

As the investigation remains on-going, no interviews or further statements will be made on the matter at this time.

VICTORIAN media sources are reporting that trainers from Flemington have blamed the security breach on the Big Day Out music festival when 40,000 fans flocked to the track on Australia Day.

They are claiming that drunken louts from the festival broke into the stables of several high profile trainers and freed horses from their enclosures. Victims of the behavior included David Hayes, Peter Snowden and Mark Kavanagh.

One trainer had almost 30 valuable racehorses released from their boxes. Staff tried to confront the louts and are claiming that the security staff at the Big Day Out refused to help control the situation.
