COUNTRY Racing Victoria (CRV) has today announced a $65,000 rise in prize money for the Warrnambool Racing Club's three-day Tabcorp May Racing Carnival.

A total of 16 races have had their prize money boosted, bringing the minimum level of prize money per race up to $20,000, and the total prizemoney on offer during the carnival to over $1 million.

Warrnambool Racing Club Chief Executive Officer John Green said “We’re obviously very pleased about this prize money increase. We have a fantastic event here at Warrnambool and the boost to prize money will enhance the Tabcorp May Racing Carnival for owners, trainers and punters”.

Country Racing Victoria Chief Executive Officer Scott Whiteman said the decision to increase the prizemoney for Warrnambool Carnival was based on the success of last year’s event and further illustrates CRV’s support of the club.

“Many people continue to make the three-day racing carnival an annual getaway with friends and family to enjoy thoroughbred racing at its best,” Whiteman said.

“Now with even more prize money on offer, trainers, jockeys and owners target races across the three days and the result is highly competitive racing.

“Warrnambool is one of Australia’s very best racing carnivals and will continue to prosper into the future.”

The 2010 Tabcorp May Racing Carnival will be held at Warrnambool Racecourse from Tuesday 4th May to Thursday 6th May.
