JUST when punters were starting to think that ‘headline hunter’ Ray Murrihy had gone missing in action, the Racing New South Wales Chief Steward is back in the lime-light.

Murrihy has stolen some of the spotlight from the Danny Nikolic inquiry in Victoria by launching his own controversial investigation into security measures at Racing Information Services Australia.

The Sydney Morning Herald Racing Editor, Craig Young, has today filed this story, which we reproduce courtesy of John Fairfax:

RACING NSW Chief Steward, Ray Murrihy, has launched an inquiry into security measures in place at Racing Information Services Australia, which is responsible for the compilation of race fields and form.

''We are going to investigate who has unauthorized access to the RISA system,'' Murrihy said yesterday.

''Access to the code allowing people to watch the assembly of race fields … the only people that should have access to that should be the race club hosting the meeting. We have asked RISA for a list of people accessing these fields.''

Murrihy fielded inquiries on Thursday about several trainers lodging late acceptances for today's Randwick meeting. Because it is a Group 1 race day acceptances were taken a day early, with the deadline 9am on Wednesday.

''With all due respect there is a scurry of activity around this time (9am),'' Murrihy said, adding stewards would not be ''pedantic'' and penalize late entries because hold-ups occurred at the data entry point.
