VICTORIA'S 2010 jumps racing season begins this weekend with four races to be held over the two-day Hamilton Cup Carnival in the state’s south west.

The races are the first of 63 to be conducted across seven specialist jumps tracks – Betfair Park (Sandown), Warrnambool, Coleraine, Casterton, Moe, Pakenham and Hamilton – between now and the end of August.

A sizzling feud between some of the best fillies from Sydney and Melbourne will be decided in the $350,000 Group 1 Patinack Farm AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick this Saturday.

The Bart Cummings-trained Faint Perfume will take on Tony Vasil’s Valdemoro in the classic fillies staying race which boasts an exceptional field of 12 after final acceptances today.

Statistics show that ‘letsgohorseracing’ is one of the fastest growing racing web-sites in the country. One of our most read features has been the ‘Queensland Believe It Or Not’ file but readers are telling us that they want it expanded to cover a wider area of the racing world.

THE big guns in the $1.5 million Group 1 Emirates Doncaster Mile (1600m) will be starting from wide gates after the barrier draw was conducted on Tuesday.

Favorite Typhoon Tracy drew barrier 14 and her main rival Danleigh drew barrier 15 in the draw that was held at the Emirates Marquee at Royal Randwick.

BARGAIN buy Shoot Out, declared a potential champion by jockey Stathi Katsidis, silenced the critics with a terrific win in the $1.3 million AJC Australian Derby, 2400m, at Randwick, on Saturday.

The win was a triumph for Gold Coast trainer John Wallace who decided to head to the Derby rather than take the option of running Shoot Out, $4.80, in the Doncaster Mile, which most of the supposed good judges declared was a more ideal goal.

JUST what the future holds for jumps racing in Victoria depends on what you read and who you listen to.

THE thrill and excitement of the David Jones Australian Derby won’t be limited to the track this Saturday with a range of entertainment and promotions on offer to punters attending the classic race day at Royal Randwick.

Punters on course will have a once-in-a-life-time chance to win a $50,000 share in a racehorse chosen by Racing Hall of Fame trainer Bart Cummings at this year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sales.

FOLLOWING extensive consultation between the Victoria Racing Club (VRC), Racing Victoria Limited (RVL) and racing industry stakeholders, it has been decided that emergencies will not be introduced for the Emirates Melbourne Cup in 2010.

VRC Chief Executive Dale Monteith said that the decision was made in the best interests of the racing industry.

We hear what you are saying and it has been replaced by the ‘Wednesday Whinge.’ This does not mean we are softening our stance on all that is wrong in Queensland Racing. That will never happen. We will continue to attempt to legitimize e-mails, which we ask that you limit to three or four paragraphs.
