TWO-YEAR-OLD QUALIFYING TRIALS AT RANDWICK
THOROUGHBRED stars of the future will be on show this morning (Monday) when more than 75 horses take part in two-year-old qualifying trials at Royal Randwick.
Progeny from proven two year old sires such as Redoute’s Choice, Flying Spur, More Than Ready, Exceed and Excel, Encosta de Lago and General Nediym will compete in nine heats starting from 9.15am.

STREETFIGHTER NOW HEADED TO THE METROPOLITAN
PATCHED-UP Victorian stayer, Streetfighter, responded to a daring Kerrin McEvoy ride to win today’s Group 3 Newcastle Gold Cup, 2300m, at Broadmeadow.
Streetfighter, $9, earned a crack at the AJC Metropolitan at Randwick on October 3 after his short half head win over Lodge the Deeds, $4.20, with the $4 favorite Enzedex Eagle in third place.
RACING VICTORIA BOWS TO PROTEST AND REVOKES PROVISIONAL APPROVAL
Racing Victoria Limited (RVL) today revoked its provisional approval for the Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) to incorporate a fireworks display into the entertainment package to launch the Club’s 2009/2010 Night Racing Season on Friday, 25 September.
The decision was made following concerns raised by industry stakeholders regarding the potential impact the fireworks would have on horses competing on the night.

VICTORY OF FIRSTS FOR LEES AND THOMPSON AT NEWCASTLE
IT was a victory of firsts when smart mare, Absolutelyfabulous, won the Group 3 Patinack Farm Cameron Handicap, 1400m, at Newcastle today.
This was the first time that local trainer Kris Lees and champion jockey Robert Thompson had won the Broadmeadow feature.

STRADBROKE Handicap winner, Black Piranha, has been solidly backed to score a comeback win in tomorrow’s (Wednesday) $150,000 Group 3 Patinack Farm Cameron Handicap at Newcastle.
Black Piranha has firmed from $3.20 to $3 with Mark Read’s IASbet.com and looks certain to start a solid favorite ahead of Ahdashim ($4.50) with some support for Absolutelyfabulous ($7.50 to $6).

DATO TAN CHIN NAM WIN EARNS BALLOT EXEMPTION
THE brilliant win by Whobegotyou in the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley last Saturday has earned him an exemption from the 2009 BMW Caulfield Cup ballot.
The champion four-year-old is the only horse aside from the Danny O’Brien-trained Vigor, winner of the G2 Makybe Diva Stakes, to be awarded this privilege to date.
SPRING CARNIVAL SAVED FROM POTENTIAL STRIKE ACTION
STRIKE action has been averted during the Spring Racing Carnival with a compromise reached over controversial new whip rules.
The Australian Racing Board and the Australian Jockeys’ Association agreed on changes to be implemented hopefully by the start of racing on Saturday.

FAILURE IN IRISH ST LEGER SEES MARE EASED TO $21 FOR THE CUP
IRISH mare Profound Beauty has drifted from Melbourne Cup favoritism to a $21 chance in early markets following her distant fourth in the Irish St Leger at the weekend.
The Dermot Weld-trained Profound Beauty finished over 23 lengths from the winner Alandi on a heavy track at The Curragh.
